The former GOSS Liaison Officer to Kenya Dr John Andruga Duku was a while back interviewed by K24 and he was very categorical that come Jan 09, 2010 Southern Sudanese men and women will vote for a secession. Failure of which may see a resumption of very high voltage civil war. He was clear that SPLM is not a guerrilla any more and has build up capacity to defend itself. Google k24 on you tube for the videos.
This month we are being treated to contradictory statements which should concern each and every one of us who has a stake in Southern Sudan (Equity bank, Coop Bank, KCB….i own a stake in the first two). Mr. Salva Kiir, the president of Southern Sudan and first vice president of Sudan, said at the International Peace Institute in New York. “There is a risk of a return to war in case of delay or denial of this exercise, and it would be on a very massive scale.” Two weeks later, Omar Bashir negates the statement.
What is the future for this country should the referendum abort? Secondly what are the strategies of the Kenyan firms hoping to invest in this country and those already on the ground should the GOSS decide enough is enough? This may also lead to invasion and hauling Omar to the Hague…….. what is your take on this.
Personally, I would wish to see the referendum proceed and secession.
