Mwanahisa please give us a company owned by a luo and provide the breakdown of the management.
Seems, I should have kept my "trap" shut, as per my first instincts. For the record, I am not from Western Kenya - although it would not matter even if I were.
Equity Bank is a listed company so its relatively easy for me to get that kind of information at the click of a mouse. I am not able to do that for private companies, so I am afraid I can't give you that information. There are not that many companies on the NSE where the founders are from Western Kenya.
However, the point is not to compare companies owned by people who trace their antecedents from Central Kenya versus others. I am equally uncomfortable with a company largely owned by Englishmen, Asians or others having 80% of their management ranks being populated by persons from their kinsfolk.
In the case of EB, if they ever want to shed the tag of a Central Kenya outfit, I think they have to work on increasing the diversity of their key employees. In the mean time, I continue to laud the good performance of the bank. I just happen to believe that it can be done with more representation of management from across the region. I rest my case!
