hi to all,
i think i have been conned by a guy in japan who runs a motor vehicle export company there.
we agreed through his web site the type and model of the vehicle and i sent him through swift transfer 6000 us dollars.
he sent me the invoice but from that point 3 weeks have passed and he still keep promising that he will send me the bill of loading and other documents but invain.
can anyone advice what the best way i can use to avoid loosing my cash and how to go about it in recovering my cash.
regards and thanks in advance.

@Halky,

I hope you have not been conned.Just a few questions:

1.Who introduced you to the company?

2.Do you know anyone who imported a vehicle from the guy?

3.Did he send you the JEVIC inspection report?

If unsure,its better to deal with exporters who accept deposit payments and then pay the balance when the vehicle has beep shipped.

Japanese vehicle exporters have an association and may have been a good idea to find out if they are members.

Where is Tokyo,our guy in Japan?May be he can help to do a due diligence?

it must be your first time,right?be patient..three weeks is not so much..when u send money they have to get the vehicle to JEVIC and book ship which may take upto one month..you only get the B/L once the vehicle is laden on the ship...it appears though this guy is now sourcing for the car..u may get delayed but 95% chance of not getting conned

Well i doubt you have been conned but on the other had you have provided very little information about the exporter. if he is a native japanese chances are that u r safe. You have given us very little info about how you got his contacts and such stuff. The japanese govt and the exporters association of Japan and the varoius towns auctions can help you track down whether he is a genuine exporter because they guard the intergrity of the export biz jealously and they will do everrthing to keep away fraudsters.unless you are talking of a 'beste' . Contact the auction association of that town he must a member and if things points to the red go to the Japanese embassy in upperhill next to British american centre and explain your case. If you salvage your cash the only deal with the big established companies that have exported thousands not just ahandfull of cars to kenya that is www.ibcjapan.co.jp www.paperatraders co.jp and www.janstrading.jp plus delights

@HALKY,

If you sent the money yourself and did not give it to some guys at river road,you have not been conned. Just confirm that the bank address is in Japan. If it is,wait.

Furnish us with more information about the company...then we can advice and/or assist.

In contrast to other commodities,the value of information increases when it is shared

Relax.If such cases had been rampant the whole car export business in Japan could have collapsed by now.
