I think he has failed and needs to be shown the door ASAP.

I feel sorry for the guy. You leave the private sector and plunge into public service hoping to offer your expertise to your beloved country and what do you find? Entrenched cartels and systems rigged to fail. Each 'kanjura' has a quota to fill in the blotted payroll numbers, a slot in the tendering table and the mayor announces on national TV that they buy manhole covers for 10K a piece X 40M pieces!
Did you see him during the recent 'elections' when the usual fists and chairs were flying? The man sat there looking decidedly baffled - completely out of place. He should not be fired - he should resign.

I think it was wrong to assume that a guy who can run a building (KICC) can also run the city where that building is located!

And do you remember the comment by Mudavadi when he refused to re-new Gakuo's contract? "Gakuo has done a good job and I think it is time we let some one else try as well"!!!!!!

Isn't that what you do if the previous guy was not able to do the job?

@ Mukiha i concur,
He will turn out to be the worst we have ever known.
@ Simpson which private sector did this guy ever run? K.I.C.C is a public utility under the ministry of Tourism.
This guy never had a job worth taking about in his entire life.
Chairman Nairobi Central Business Association to me isn't a full time job.
That is all i know about this chap but i could be wrong, so i will welcome more details on companies he is run.

@wote _ I'd not discount his tenure as the chair of NCBDA - what better think tank or focus group to learn what ails the businesses in the city - and these are all sorts of companies - its the perspective that is needed to run the city hall and make it efficient.

Sadly, as someone has pointed out, systems are rigged to fail. Never put wine in old skins - we saw what happened with Githongo. We all recall the "dream team" - their efficacy as PSs was not that good - maybe Leakey did some stuff but Naikuni and Oduol...hmmm....nothing worth writing home about...yet in the pvt sector they really thrive....

Perhaps we need Gakuo back - someone "hardened" enough by the system but still able to strike a balance to allow the crocodiles to feed but still leave some resources for development....

When Khisia takes office and finds all of Gakuo's people still entrenched, success will definitely prove elusive!

Gakuo did not care about the kanjuras! He did what was right! Even the lousy crooked mayor was powerless!

Gakuo cleaned up Nairobi... Look at the great job he has done along Nairobi River while working for Ministry of Environment...

You know what guys, this guy Kisia is only good at bettering his poor wife cann't run dumn thing not even his own home. He should have been fired when he contracted a private company for hundreds of millions of shillings to do a head count for employees of the city coucil.
