Hi Investors,

Interesting finding on Super Ongea Tariff for those who have 3G enabled fones .... When your fone is on 3G,the likely hood of calling at a higher rate ( if not max ) is very much higher than when on ur fone is on 2G mode. This is because from the same location, there are fewer 3G sites than 2G sites hence higher utilisation for data and calls ... for cheaper calls if not using data,go to settings-call-network and set ur fone on 2G unless you need to use data .....

Happy savings !!

...or to put it in another way, safcom is assuming ppl who can afford a 3G handset are loaded and won't mind being overcharged.

Well thats another way of looking at it ..... how i discoverd that was i was with my pal who was complaining that the tariff is biased, that ppl with high end phones were paying more and how that was possible . when u use say an E71,ti was 8 bob and when u change to an 1100 it was 4bob !! Cell broadcast is not also possible when the fone is on 3G mode so the rate does not display unless u check using *155#

Someone wrote an article in the watchie column on sunday about expensive phone being charged more. I was with a friend who has a cheap phone. I asked him to bring his phone to test whether what the article was saying was true. His phone was being at Shs. 6 per min and my phone was at Shs. 7/- per minute. It is time to get that old phone back.

I have talked numerous times with even that 0.8 bob. I think if you have those 3G phones then it will not be so hard to be switching back to 2G to quell the Robinhood effect

@akowally. Thanks for the phrase 'robinhood effect'

3G network does not support cell broadcast meaning that ur fone cannot display supaongea charges, dialing *155# also gives you a rate of 8 bob,but the fact is your line is still enjoying the supaongea discounted rates though it cannot indicate.when not using data you can change network from UMTS to GSM.

success or failure is like a seed plant any and put enough effort and you will definately harvest

i have always believed that the rates displayed on the screen are not necessarily linked to the congestion (or lack of it) of the network at that point in time.

it's possible the phone type (3g or 2g) may be part of the criteria for the disparity in rates even when standing right next to someone else.

the safcon people still want to maintain profitability even as they sell this seemingly cheaper rate to us,bearing this in mind it's then easy to conceptualise a myriad of ways to tinker with the rates so as to come to the same profitability they have always had.

@livvie,I believe any discount is better than no discount. As long as I'm not paying anything above 8 bob i'm comfortable.
