...Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s cancer is terminal and he will die within a year, according to intelligence sources quoted by the Washington Times

http://www.nation.co.ke/.../-/yys077z/-/index.html

If this was a Kenyan, he would loot the treasury, stash all the money in Swiss banks and refuse to divulge the information to his wife/wives and children and wait for his death!!!!

The Economist for July 17th-23rd has a special report on Egypt and Hosni Mubarak. Another African dictator on his death bed and struggling to keep power in the family. Will democracy come and flourish, or will anarchy reign typical of Arab nations in transition?
Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

You call Mubarak a moderate? haha. You should talk to the opposition then. Mubarak has rigged election after election and commited abuses. I shall gladly drink to his death. The world will be a much better place without him.

@youcant, inteligentsia is not talking about democracy but Islamic fundamentalism.

kadonye and Intelligentsia, I think (and I know you agree) that Egyptians and all other peoples have a right to choose their leaders, whether they are leaning towards Capitalism, Communism or Islamic Fundamentalism.
Intelligentsia, I think that a 'breath of fresh air' is going to be found with Mubarak's exit. He has done nothing for the Palestines (closure of the Rafah crossing for continually long periods has done little to ease the suffering of Palestines) But like you say, a new leader might heat things up. This will be a stern test of Obama's mettle
