@Pierce,i think KQ has seen its bottom, the rise may be slow but for one to benefit you do not wait for Sep when they close books for dividends followed by half year on Nov 5,ke nako!or what do they say?.Meanwhile the only rights i await are for SCBK.Got in @ 200 and slowly it is now testing 230,and at 1st quarter wasn't that behind the SI unit Equity bank.

Q1 passenger numbers should be good Q-on-Q coz of World Cup.

- There were 6 African countries many of which KQ serves including Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Cote DIvoire which are served through JKIA by KQ.

- KQ also serves Netherlands (AMS), England (LHR), France (CDG) as well. Of course, all these had direct flights to S.Africa but KQ might have received some 'overflow'.

- Many Kenyans I know went to SA just for the World Cup. They had never flown to SA before & were unlikely to do so this year.

- Business has also picked up between Kenya & other African countries which should have helped KQ.

- There will be losses from Iceland volcano but limited to European flights & affected everyone. There may have been a partial recovery due to pent-up demand.

Am I happy with KQ's financial performance? NO.
Do I think the operational performance in 1Q 2010-11 will be better? YES.
Will it translate to better financial performance? I HOPE SO

@vvs you really understand this KQ share. Your patience will be rewarded richly. I see this share hitting 200 in the next 2 years. Not my kind of investment though.

200? LOLest... That wud be sweet!

I was a huge fan at 20/- coz trading at 50% of NAV but now it's at NAV... KQ rides on Africa's expansion/growth...

I understand KQ is planning a total domination of the african airspace. If they are half successful, i would expect the share to trade at a huge premium.

This is turning into a KQ discussion......

@VVS,

You are absolutely on point with the above indicators.

In addition:
-KQ has sold the highest fares ever during this WC peak, and this normally has a huge effect on any airlines bottom line!
-New routes like Juba which were launched as daily flights (very brave for a new route) are doing exceptionally well for a daily flight
-Smaller domestic carriers escpecially to Mombasa are being quickly edged out as KQ improves its product on this route escpecially using E170 jets dedicated for the route

Overall, a very good perfomance should be expected for the 1st half.

The second half is a traditional peaksmile

Note; KQ is the dominant airline flying between East African and SouthEast Asia (Bangkok, Shanghai, Hongkong, Seoul)with connections to West and South Africa thru Nairobi.Direct flights to and from Bangkok six times a week most of them full. FYI you can fly on KQ ticket from Shanghai China To Antan, Madagascar

"Kenya Airways (+0.5%) launched two times weekly charter service from Nairobi to Guangzhou via Bangkok with B767-300 aircraft, effective 06-Jul-2010 to 05-Oct-2010"

What does this mean? How can you have 'scheduled' charters?
Or does KQ simply sell all the seats to a few travel agents (& dont market the seats at all)?

Please explain...

Seoul is a code-share with Korean Air thru BKK.
HKK & Guangzhou are thru BKK. KQ cancelled direct flights last year. No Shanghai flights by KQ.
But doesnt Ethiopian offer SE Asia flights too?

KLM operates 4 flights on Amsterdam to Johannesburg on 10JUL10 and return on 12JUL10

All the above are for the Final game! Pity KQ could not capture the extra business but JKIA sucks!

Old news but KQ is full SkyTeam member... I wonder what additional benefits KQ will get...
