What will be the new name of Zain.

According to Reuters: Bharti, 32-percent owned by Singapore Telecommunications, would pay a total of $9 billion in cash to Zain, including $700 million to be paid one year after the deal closes. The Indian firm will also assume $1.7 billion debt on the target firm's books.

So, initially it was Kencell then Celtel and before we got used to it Zain now .............fill in the gap. May be another name in 3 or 5 years. No wonder these guys can never compete with safaricom for one simple reason..CONSISTENCY. With every change comes re-branding which is quite expensive and its not a surprise that these guys are the biggest spenders in advertisements.

Maybe they should re-brand 14 operations in africa to AIRTEL and leave the kenyan operation name intact smile

In Africa only Morocco and Sudan will be left out of the purchase. They have indicated that if they can pay $9bn, then rebranding is a small cake. Futhermore if they continue to use the name Zain in addition to promoting someone else's brand they will have to pay royalties.

Zain's run out of oil money?
Why did they pull out? and dont give me that jazz about consolidating operations in their more profitable markets as its been sung time and again how africa's mobile telecom industry is a hot cake.

Why are they pulling out if Africa telecom market's growth potential in unrivalled? Have they seen something about the future african market they are not telling?

Zain Full-Year 2009 Net Income Declines 39% to $675 Million

The company’s customer base increased 14 percent to 72.5 million. Consolidated revenue for its companies in the Middle East and Africa rose 15.7 percent

What a start for Bharti! I've checked annual results for Zain for a couple of years. They started making a habit of accepting loss making OpCos. First it was only 1/2 in Africa in 2007, then they increased to like 5/6, don't know how many made Opcos made profit this year - perhaps the only ones they retained.

Isn't this suspect. Zain are withdrawing from Black Markets (I mean in terms of race.)
Morocco and Sudan are clearly not the most promising countries for telecommunication companies.
They have no greater potential than lets say Kenya. They have only been spared because they are Arab nations.
It clear and plain to see that this is blunt racism.

Ive been watching this guyz advert on teli and every time I wonder if they are advertising a network or brand LANDROVER. The amount of time dedicated to the chap in the landi makes absolute rubbish of the network that is supposed to be the target for audience.In my opinion this is a complete goof by their marketing agents....
The STONE that the builder refused shall be the head CONNER STONE!

I can't imagine going to an airtime vendor and asking "uko na airtime ya Bharti?!"...sounds ridiculous even to my ears!
