Why are we wasting billion of shillings searching for Oil in the depths of the earth .... not sure that we we'll ever get it ....when we have already gotten massive coal deposits in Mwingi.... Why not use this funds to mine the equally industrialization driving coal?????....Educated Kenyans we need to ask these questions ..... The oil exploitation could be another scandal in the making....

What was the use of coal exploration if after confirming the deposits we cant exploit......

Kenya’s industrialisation dreams could soon become a reality following the discovery of commercial quantities of coal in Eastern Kenya, which could be extracted for exports, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka said Tuesday.

That article is for sept 2008 ...must be gathering dust in some office somewhere...

Hope Kalonzo leaves a legacy to his people....by pushing for the mining to commence...this will make a true leader of him...

I have been having the same thots on the coal deposits.

Is this not where we should get the cheap electricity to drive our factories, trains lighting etc.

I don't really mind them searching for the oil as well, after all the chinese are picking the bill.

In fact the question is why have the chinese/indians or any other foreigner not shown any interest in the coal, is it really there in commercially viable quantities and quality
