I understand there are lucrative business opportunities for supply of a range of products to Rwanda. I am particularly interested in supplying vegetables. Can anyone with advice on how to get orders, hiring of trucks etc help me out

@Shiku,
Supply veges in Rwanda??......Do more homework.I guess a starting point would be to travel to Kigali and "shop" around. To my best of knowledge,Rwanda is in a region where foodstuffs of all kinds are readily available and cheap.secondly, you might need your own truck and not a hired one........manufactured goods sell easily.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Njunge, thanks for the advice. I will organise a trip to start with and see what opportunities exist.

Investments in rwanda always comes with a caveat......I know most kenyans who have really invested a lot in rwanda but when you dont tow the line it starts coming back to you slowly just like the brown ants chews a pole from inside while outside looks stable. A classic example, after seeting up US embassy in Rwanda, DN international invested heavily in real estate, now it seems the banks are on it....Am not sure this is coz of a mere 105Million Rwf, thats a pocket change for Nat Lloyd, there must have been a bigger picture

Was there last week, the famous "carwash" joint is no more. Misunderstanding (read wivu) between the owner and the landlord.

Lesson of the day - foreign investor be careful, very careful!

Otherwise, the place is abuzz with lots of construction and trade in general.

My 2 cents

The carwash brand is Mr. Wahome; his service standards are unrivalled in Rwanda because he has been able to instill work ethic. There are other attributes to keep his brand with loyal customers majority of whom are Rwandan Nationals. The key of which is he takes good care of his staff because he knows they will be dealing with his customers.

He simply moved location to the grill and barbecue restaurant in Kacyiru near PSI international or Ninzi Hill Hotel or King Faisal hospital.

The other truth that should be told needs somebody with a very strong stomach. The accidental entrepreneur or hawker will not have it easy because the Rwandan government needs tax paying contributions to its economy not kenya's jua kali style where taxes are only paid by corporates.

What of course they will not put in the brochures and marketing media is that Rwanda as a country would rather you took some money to it instead of coming here to 'earn' it.

See the country has the highest sub-saharan density per square kilometer. Its mainstay is agriculture and has few minerals. Therefore it needs high capital infusions to keep it running.

Unfortunately a significant proportion of people misread Rwanda as the land of milk and honey. You have to bring your own bees and cows because they will have an easier time making honey and milk here than in kenya. And you can sell you produce at a higher price here due to less competition.

High level ICT companies like Ericsson and huaweii have set up on an ad hoc basis to service the mobile phone companies.

LG is already in the market.. serving the high end..

Chinese phone makers tecno and ZTE are already on the ground..

What worries me is the cost of doing business. Just go to majerwa and you shall know how much the customs are raking in... try registering anything without the locals... its too painful... what is impressive for me is the justice system, corrupt free low end market segment etc I was once arrested on the streets for i did not know why the whole country closes down on last sato of the month... to do general cleaning? is it called mugunda? but the chaps [military] were civil, disciplined and did not even whisper anything like TKK despite my cargeo and the many wrong turns that finally saw me end at Kagame's neighbourhood ...
