Real. There is this chinese dude who set up a small optical shop in a alley behind Akamba bus (next to Marble Arch Hotel. His rates are very low. Aat most he has invested 0.5m. At this rate, these guys will run our hawkers out of town.

@Gathinga,
May be the dude is a 'Kenyan' as in he has married a local girl?

Where exactly? The way I get ripped off for even small repairs/screws by akina Optica...

Once I damaged my specs in Mombasa... the optician was so expensive (on the main street)... I was then referred a back alley guy (duka & all) who did a great job at 50%...

My gut tells me the main street guy sent the specs to the back alley guy...

@VVS.
Next to that Akamba booking office, you go upstairs as if going to Antonio restaurant. Its on the same floor. Very quality stuff @ good rates

Poundfoolish,
Why the panic??.....We can always find a way of making the Chinese stick to big ventures,roads and bridges.The sooner we do it the better....BTW,now that someone has said it,i know of a Chinese fellow who is doing retail clothe/shoes hawking in Nyanza and Western towns.He travels around with his Chinese wife in a Toyota Carina.

I really like their attitude/culture towards business.They are the type where if you want an item its available they give you the best rates and of course what else would you as a customer want.If one of our own has an item and is selling at double the price and the chinese fellow is giving u the same at half the price, then why not buy from them.

There is a lot to learn from them than burying our heads that they dont exist.But trust kenyans to beat them in their own game.Remember the dukawallahs.We can still drive them out of town and follow them to Inda as the the latter have done.
