I am planning to drill 150 m borehole in Kiambu and someone has quoted 5500/= per m (including casing). Is this a fair deal?

Why do you want to dig to 150Mtrs. I think 5500 is on the higher side though.

Mine is underway and preliminary costs for 30ft approx 10M are working to abt 30K with materials cost + labor.

@Ispoa,
Yours is a shallow well probably done by some sumbuas back at shagz.......Quite different from drilling.

@Osa2,
That is on the higher side.......and why are you so sure at 150 you will have water?....Suppose you yield nothing at that depth?

@Njunge. I am doing preliminary estimate. I know someone who drilled one not far from there within 130m, so i am assuming that range.

@Osa2: That price is within range from Kshs5500 to Kshs6000. i did one 2 years ago upto 154meters and it cost me 900,000. You hae to be carefull with the drillers and the estimated depth of the borehole! they would give you the rate of may be 5,500 upto 150 meters and a higher figure for any thing above 150 meters. try negotiate for the same rate all through just incase you need to go furthur than 150 meters.

I had a survey done and i was informed that i would strike water at 100 meters but at 100 meters only dust was coming out of the damn hole! I had a hard time to decide on whether to continue o stop there and count my losses but god was on my side and i stricked water at 154 meters. nearby boreholes are good indicaters of the distance but cannot be 100% accurate. Try also have the contracted driller do their indipendent survey before drilling!

Alo note that a good pump will cost you not less than ksh, 400,000 all inclusive, installtion and all accessories!

Also note ...

If there is no hope of piped water in the near future and more boreholes are expected in the vicinity, you should drill much deeper. Otherwise your hole could go dry after a short time.

The more the boreholes the deeper the depth of the boreholes.

@osa2, i believe there is a company which quoted a price of sh 400 000 to drill a borehole on wazua a while back, can't quite remember the depth though. Just google wazua forums and maybe they can offer you a better price.Best of luck

This is a quote from a wazuarian..

@Mkosti, I have a contact in Mombasa who exclusively does the borehole drilling.
The Last time I checked, he was charging between 100-150K depending on his surveys; all inclusive.

He uses some drilling equipment and takes less than a week to complete the assignments.
The water-bed in Mombasa is luckily shallow.

KES 5500 is ok including casing. But i would have thought in Kiambu the water table is high and a shallow well say 150 foot would work?
