Dear members,

Recap

Last December,Wazua admnistration, Njunge and members of Wazua/Sk charity Club donated 21,500/= cash to be used on the less fortunate in the society over christmas period. We chose Ruiru Rehabilitation center as beneficiaries due to the good job they have been doing to rehabilitate former street /neglected children in to better /beneficial citizens.

Out of the contribution ,10,000/= was set aside as a kitty to sponsor a hard working good performing child from the Rahab.

The top perfomers from the Rehab in the last year's KCPE results were as follows:

1.Moses 359
2.Samuel 326
3Peter 321

way foward

We made another very successful visit to the Ruiru Rehab center on Saturday 23.1.2010.

We were three of us Leona , Rachel and I

We stayed there for until some minutes to 4 p.m.though our plan was to stay till 1p.m.It was just a good feeling seeing these small children and those who have volunteered to make them feel loved and cared.

We took a profile of each of the children.

Out of the three top perfoming candidate , two of them ,Moses -359 and Peter-321 have some sponsors who have shown interest in them.
(These were one at time their sponsors but were unable to continue with the sponsorship due to financial limitations).

Samuel -326 does not have a sponsor so far.

So we proposed him to be the beneficiary for the sponsorship.

We met Samuel and talked to him for quite sometime. We unanimously agreed that the boy is of very likable character. He is abit shy but very sharp. He was the 2nd best in the home in KCPE last year.
The rehab keeps a file for each child and we gathered that he joined them in 2004 in class 3 .

He has two brothers who are also in the rehab.
He is a son of a single mother. His mother abandoned them in the streets in the Ruiru and they we surviving on garbage until a neighbor , good samaritan discovered the Rehab and brought them there. They have reformed and his elder brother in Form 2 is the headboy in the Rehab.

Samuel promised to work very hard if we give him a chance in secondary education. He wants to be a doctor after school.

Samuel is waiting for admission letter but we also request members if they know a good school for a child with such marks(326) to help us get admission. He is not selective as long as good learning takes place in that school

Remember we(Sk charityclub )are now his family members i.e brother, sisters, mother and father.

On a different note,I can tell you that each child there has a bad story to tell.Just like two sibblings in the rehab who watched their father being butchered in the PEV and their mother being raped .Their mother went mad there after and they were left with no one to take care of them until the rehab came to their rescue.

If you wish to participate in this task of educating this less fortunate young hardworking boy , you can get in touch with (reggyzoe@yahoo.com )or me(mpolekabisa@gmail.com).

If as many as possible wazuans help, it will be a very easy task due to the power of numbers.

Trasparency is guaranteed. So far we have not had any transparency issues on the Charity club.

We are in the process of opening a bank account for the charity since the kind of commitment we have taken is now more challenging and our financials need to be very clear as well as have a easier way of mobilizing funds.

Mpesa line has it challenges though it will continue in operation for convience.

Well said, not much i can add to that. Thanks

@All
Our priority right now is finding a good school for this boy, We want to give him the best and all he wants too is the best education he can get. So please,if you know of a good school educationwise with an a good discipline record. kindly get in touch with us and we'll truly appreciate. We are open to any part of the country,as long as that boy will walk out of that school with good grades, good discipline and some life skills too. Thanks in advance

Happy new year guys ....Im back after 5 weeks self imposed break.....Good to see that Skerians are upto something good....Let us all support this kind of initiative....

some wisdom for living
Deuteronomy 15:7, 11
If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.

Leviticus 23:22
When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.

Psalm 41:1-2
Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble. The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.

Psalm 68:5
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling

Proverbs 11:24-25
One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Proverbs 14:21
He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who is kind to the needy.

Isaiah 65:17-Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore

Some more......

Proverbs 21:13
If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.

Proverbs 28:27
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.

Proverbs 31:8-9
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Isaiah 1:17
Learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.

Isaiah 58:6-7;10
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter-- when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? ...and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

Ezekiel 16:49
Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.

Zechariah 7:8-10
And the word of the LORD came again to Zechariah: "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.'

Micah 6:8
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Matthew 6:1-4
Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Matthew 25:41-45
Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least among you, you did not do for me.'

Mark 10:21
Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

Luke 6:38
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Luke 10:29-37
But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."

Luke 12:33
Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.

Isaiah 65:17-Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore

Kenyan middle class.... this is a very big challenge... let's not be a bunch of whiners.....when an opportunity like this arises ...we need to participate and help as much as possible....According to Leona and V2030.. the Centre rehabilitates Street children...If these children are left in the streets ..we (middle class ) are the greatest victims when they steal from us ....murder us or snatch our purses ,phones or handbags..or even carjack and rape us.....Lets be proactive instead of being reactive.....

Thanks guys for the thumbs up,It's the least we can do. The Rehab Centre has only 60kids,Most of them from the streets. If we all shared the responsibilty of educating and mentoring them, the streets would be less 60 destitute children and Kenya/the World would be +60 responsible, useful people. It's up to us,as noble citizens to take care of each other. At the end of the day...they say 'In Africa,it takes a whole village to raise a child'. So,if we don't take up our role as good villagers, who will?

PPS: SK Charity members, Kindly check your emails and respond ASAP on the google group. There is a pressing issue awaiting your response. Thanks in advance

A good initiative, finally something the long whining Kenyan middle class can finally latch onto to make a difference!

Since early last year a group of guys including myself have been paying school fees at Starehe Boys for 2 bright boys who come from severely disadvantaged backgrounds. Last year (2009) we saw them through Form 1 and have undertaken to pay for them till they clear 4th form. In between we will also do career counselling, taking a wide spectrum of professionals from different spheres to talk to the 2 boys. We visit them every beginning of term, spend some time with them, share their popular snacks at their school canteen with them, as they tell us how they spent their holidays, review their report forms and give them a very small amt. of pocket money allowance (500/=) per term (deliberately small so as not to alienate them from their peers).

With time however, we realized it would be better and more effective to go the endowment route. So we are raising 600k which when placed in a bank deposit at 10% p.a. earns enough interest income to cater for the fees of one boy for a whole year. So once we raise the 600k, the annual interest will educate a boy to perpetuity, yaani forever - even long after we are past tense. With 1.2m we will educate 2 boys forever. Now what better legacy than that in life? In addition I am personally aiming to raise 1 endowment of 600k on my own, and everytime I think of this I really get excited and...challenged.

Because they are 2 we have to raise 1.2m and we have challeneged ourselves to raise that by end of 2011. Its immense personal satisfaction to us knowing we are changing and impacting Kenyan lives and families permamently.

So for Ruiru rehab I feel you guys and the endowment way is the way to go for a long term view. I will endeavour attend your events plse keep us posted.

There is more joy in giving than in receiving...

Tuvok , Trump and all , to join the google group, please send an email to me on :mpolekabisa@gmail.com so I can invite you into the group.

@Trump , if you live in rRuiru you can make a visit to the rehab at your own time and share with the children because they need encouragement and mentoring to make it in life.

@ All , our boy has already joined Ruiru High school courtesy of the open hearted SK charity members.

God bless you all.

Dear Wazuans /Sk members.

I hope you are well.

This is just to update you on this on- going project of sponsoring a former street child through High school.

Our boy is doing well in school.

Now first term is almost over. We shall get the end of term results after the exams.

We are now preparing for 2nd Term fees.

The membership of this open charity group is increasing. There is room for everyone in this forum. It’s a challenging cause and the more we are the lighter the burden.

If you wish to participate in this 4-year life-changing project please get in touch with Leona or me.

More so, you can contact Leona for the mentoring program for the former street kids who are now housed at the Rehab center.
