The ethanol plant will take 2 years to build & commission (according to the BDA article) & how much of an investment (cash+debt) will that take?

I'm not too hopeful. Bought at 13 with "insider" info concerning the power generation but... Its a wait and see situation for me. they've made an announcement before and it didn't have a significant effect on the share price.

...This is one of its many investments. I did not know that Mumias is already selling power to KPLC... I think this is the right step in the right direction. When it comes to fuel, that is where the big money is...

@magigi

Mumias has been selling power to KPLC for 2 years but new plant/turbine (fully commissioned in 2009) at full speed produces 26MW.

Capacity can be expanded to 58MW lakini low demand in Western Kenya esp at night has stymied the expansion. KPLC can only absorb the 'maximum' during the day & 'early' night... This equates to 15-19 hours...

Western Kenya has few large scale industries to use the power at night. Most large scale users are in Nairobi/Central (Thika) area. A few in Nakuru & Eldoret.

Hey, it looks like the market has received these news positively. Share price has been inching up. I am actually dissapointed to learn that MSC will only make 1.3 billion shillings from ethanol. I would have expected a lot more. Think about it. How much fuel is consumed countrywide per year - It's in the hundreds of billions - Kenol's turnover for H109 by itself was Kshs 43 billion - most of it being accrued from Kenya. In any case MSC could sell it's ethanol beyond our borders!
