From what i have seen with KPLC and Carbacid good news does really move a stock or is it just the Nse dominated by retail investors where news is key instead of company fundamentals. My verdict is if ur investing on the Nse follow the news and you will survice.

.............22 views....no reply.......let me go first

Any way it does...when Obama won the NSE resurfaced temporarily....when there was PEV (post election violence) NSE shukad seriously in days....passats affect CMC......e.t.c....the one that affects it the most is political unrest .... but well...that also depends on the definition you have of news .... because also stuff like profits, losses e.t.c. are business news and the WILL affect the markets

I beleive there are also people who get wind of such details before it hits the media,so the news (at release) will already be priced in on the stock.

@the deal...you lose me.You find nothing in the news that backs the fundamentals of Carbacid and Kplc?.The counters moved up because of speculation?

see it through my lens?

@cnn - wacha kudanganya... You said '@the deal...you lose me.You find nothing in the news that backs the fundamentals of Carbacid and Kplc?.The counters moved up because of speculation?'

****** KPLC announced great profits recently so the price jumped 20%. a nice dividend (8/-) was a sweetner as well. Almost 6% for the dividend. Yes,it is 50% of Kengen Bond but with potential to grow. That was the driver.
****** Carbacid has announced BEFORE the trading suspension was lifted an EPS of 22/- in this crappy time when other firms are losing chapaa... and a 15/- dividend!!! That was the reason for the jump in the price.

Those were questions i was putting to the @ the deal...i didnt talk of speculation anywhere.Read the posts again. I now hold shares in both companies and that is because all you said and more was within my grasp.

see it through my lens?

Share prices (even NSE),are driven by 4 things:

Changes in companies fundamentals (think legal/environmental/political/economic/social/technology)
Other news
Speculation
Insider trading

think some of us underestimate the power or they don't know what it is NEWS!

according to my dictionary news could either mean...

1. recent information
2. current event
3. programme
4. somebody or something interesting
5. something previously unknown

tell me is this not bound to affect the market?

@cnn - pole... IMHO the prices of KPLC & Carbacid (tho at 280/- seems too rich for me) moved coz of good results as well as POTENTIAL going forward...
**** At 140/- I think KPLC is a steal...

as Tony said.. news in itself will not move price for as long as said news is not factored into the price..in a majority of markets arbitrage information exists and there is always someone with information that others dont..i say again traders move markets..news moves traders

Talking of news moving the markets, why is the price of C.M.C not moving upwards with the news that they just sold a handsome number of Passats just before the closure of books? I thought this would translate to better divideds...

Of course news move the market, especially in a market like ours that is full of too many short term investors, translating to,SPECULATORS!

Its like the brokers are sleeping on their jobs of providing advice, they are just preying on the commissions, hence trying to get as many transactions as they can without keeping in mind the impact on the investor.

News can also be indirect,eg. The fact that Centum acquired a big chunk of Carbacid that is doing very well means positive news on the Centum stock. You just need to lookm @ the news in 3D.
