Has anyone in Nairobi been able to access broadband through the new cable? Which ISP will give us the first taste of 'true broadband'?

I'm dying to hear reviews from guys on the ground. I tried watching some of today's [Sunday] video clips from NTV and KTN and they were worse than before, glitches all through.By the way,do these two have their servers in Kenya?

KDN has not yet given anyone fibre connection yet. so don't expect to see the speeds yet.
according to information within KDN the earliest they could give any client fibre connection was supposed to be kesho 27th july.
Am not sure which big Kenyan sites are hosted in kenya. but i think SK is now hosted in kenya. I've never seen a faster sight than SK.

I had the pleasure of talking to a staff of KDN. They confirmed that Nairobi is already connected to the undersea fibre from today and they will giving the broadband to new customers who sign up to this service most likely from 1st August 2009.

Safaricom is now connected to this cable. The speeds are super fast. Try streaming. Even GPRS can stream!! What a wonder.

Since AK serves the corporate clients,I am sure these guys will start seeing faster speeds in 4 weeks. Seacom did say that testing will take 4 weeks.

By the way, caveman you've got it all wrong.

Many people will be disappointed once the cable will be live, with GPRS,the bottleneck is not the connection between the GSM provider and the internet.
with GPRS the bottleneck is between your phone and the GSM provider, and that's where the whole concept of EDGE comes in.,Safaricom could have fibre connection but with congestion, speeds will still be same old.

@subzero - some here are covert SCOM agents - hawking modems, touting the 'great' 3G etc. All,not likely that any providers will extend the speeds until end august - they need to test the cable - POP to POP - and be satisfied with the service prior to coming up with new,low cost offerings - it would be premature of them to start touting 'SURF Ulta 100' at Kshs 1999 when its untested. Also, providers are happy to make 'really good margins' for one more month....
