How is this possibe? How can 18 Million Kenyans spend KES.78 and survive on it daily? Is it time they (UN/WORLD BANK) look for a better way to describe the threshold of poverty....The point where poverty starts. This generalisation is old school and should be trashed to waste bins of history.

What I mean, how did they come to this conclusion of 1 dollar a day?How does the poor man divide this 78 shillings to meet his needs? This is my question.

@Impunity i would like to agree with you,the one dollar a day is a very stupid concept that should only be used in western economies.

Look at it in another angle, what does to have a dollar mean to a Turkana trading his cows for millet with a Marakwet?

UN/WB classification does not differentiate between asset income and economic income. Most African countries and especially Kenya, people classifield as belong to one dollar a day have actually assets income as oppossed to economic income.

If one has twenty acres of land with seven cows, five goats, some birds but does not have a penny to his credit, this person is not poor but would be classified as such under the UNDP/WORLD BANK.

The $ a day concept is soo tired and old school. As wote has demonstrated, one does not need to pay rent, child care, transport etc.

When you look at the life style, its same for a rural african eating sweet potatoes and a frustrated londoner paying $1,000 for rent and another $1,000 for child care.

In fact most of them white folks can't even afford children.

To make matters worse, they always insist on their negative focus on Africa but offer no help while at the same time do all in their powers to hide the poverty, genocide and suffering in Eastern Europe where they pour money in truckloads.

I guess if you can't win with facts, you can always pen bile-laced,xenophobic rants to distract everyone.
