I am just driving on Mtito-voi-Taru stretch of Mombasa road and must say the heaps of plastic bottles and other non-bio-degradable takataka you wazua middle class dumped when driving to and from the Coast in December is phenomenon. Over 120 kilometers of road is littered with plastics and i don't know who to blame.....but i digress

My main aim of starting this thread is to bring to your attention the plight of Tsavo west national park. If you have noticed wildlife(elephants,zebras,warthogs,Buffalo..etc) are now marooned between SGR, the mombasa highway and illegal human settlements on the west. As we speak over 500 elephants(bulls, cows and calves) are stuck in Sagala hill with nowhere to run to or hide. Our able former DPP who is CS Environment seems to have carried on with his epic lethargy as far as carrying out his national responsibilities are concerned. Our Muungwana Najib(CS Wildlife) has no information or is out globe trotting burning tax payers money with abandon. Governors Taita Taveta and Makueni have failed to mobilize their Kanjos to pick the litter on the roadsides or better still do civic education on the consequences of littering in the park.

In short vast lands in Tsavo have been grabbed. Richard leakey recently suggested fencing off Tsavo west and evicting illegal squatters huko Sagala hill but H.E. Uhuru fired him immedietly.Paula Kahumbu is silent, Ole itumbi is fattening up with hefty marupurupu huko DP office. Activisits in Nairobi, Mombasa, Voi, Wote, Mtito Andei towns are silent.

Who will save the elephants, the leopards, indigenous trees on Sagala hill? How can i reach Matiang'i? Who will stop mining companies from blowing out all the hills in Taita Taveta County? Who will stop those greedy miners encroaching on Chyulu?

Is Sheila Mwanyiga an activists? Can she bring issue to the limelight?Off what use is that kizungu mingi and urembo if you cannot talk about real issues?

What about Maddo(the Madd Madd World fela)? Can he highlight this in his many forums?

Hehehe.

Even for a wildlife and nature sympathizer like Tycho, hii story yako ni interesting.

Why call on Mwanyiga's name when you can call on Jesus?

It is no joke brother @tycho. It is said that God helps those who helps themselves. Mwanyinga is a high flier huko Nairobi. I am sure she can make this a topic of discussion amongst the hasttag bandwagon or wildlife activists.

Tsavo needs their machozi ya mamba(crocodile tears)

Kenya topmost newspaper(The star) had highlighted this two years or so ago before Leakey was summarily fired.

Why should these animals occupy such huge tracts of land at the expense of humans? We should do away with the colonial mentality of placing the beasts above we native africans. Whose needs should come first - man or beast?

These beasts are part of the reason Kenya received 2 million tourists last year(which we boasted about for 2 weeks straight). Furthermore, these beasts are squarely part of our national heritage(Kenya is one of the few remaining true big 5 countries).

You will agree with me land adjudication in this country is a problem. Sometimes i wonder how tiny countries like the UK with a population of over 80 millions still have land for their squirrels and other flora and fauna yet here we are encroaching on natural habitats for wildlife purely for speculation purposes and other greed related vices.

Let the plight of Tsavo west reach the highest office in this country. The company driver i'm with, thinks the problem is SGR. He says there is no day you will miss elephants stranded on the road...even in broad daylight

What colonial mentality are you talking about??? We used to live in harmony with the animals in environmental eco-friendly homes before the colonialists came. People knew their place and the forests were for animals that's why the MauMau used to escape to hide to the forest away from human habitation. I'm surprised your bigger question is not how some individuals own huge tracks of land while others have nowhere. We should not be discussing forest lands, there's enough land for all of us without touching the animals grazing lands.

BBI will solve it

Co-incidentally there is an article about elephant invasion of villages in Sagalla hill in todays sub-Standard Newspaper (myGov supplementary pullout) on page 4.The article is by one wagema Mwangi from Kenya News Agency Voi. This is real. Someone better wake up and smell the coffee....There is a reason why Magufuli is putting a tamper-proof fence around the Kilimanjaro

I am happy to see on H.E. Uhuru twirra handle that he has ordered super CS Matia'ngi to order CS Karoney and others to draw a digital map of natural resources. Meanwhile huko Taita watu hawalali...the tuskers deserve their right of way..
