Hi guys,posted this yesterday and got no replies so figured I'd try my luck again today. My ATF is leaking and my garage guy attributes that to the power steering pump but he's not putting much effort into looking for it. I drive the Cedia look alike Mits and he was telling me it's not the easiest spare part to find. Anyone who can assist me I'll appreciate...thanks

@Jk,I'm confused by your contention that I'm economical with my words...I didn't know what more info to give.

Anyway,I wanted to know how much they cost and where I can get one for my model. I keep telling my garage guy my ATF is leaking and he keeps saying he'll source for the part but meanwhile I'm using a 1 litre of ATF every month.

So basically that's it. Any help/tips/leads appreciated.Thanks

@ smano - I was saying economical with info/details of the part car type. I import/export parts from UK (new/used). Unfortunately the makes esp. Japanese cars have different name from what is in Kenya and what is available in Europe.

If you gave details like full make/model/yr of Manufacture.. then will do a search and find out what it is called in Europe.

eg Toyota vitz = toyota Yaris

Toyota Duet = Daihatsu Sirion

Toyota Prado = Toyota Colorado

Mitsubishi Pajero = Mits Shogun

Mits Pajero IO = pajero pinin/shogun pinin

Opel = Vauxhall

Toyota Harrier = Lexus RX

Estima = Previa

etc... Sasa hiyo cedia... siijui.

@smano: am confused,you say your ATF is leaking because your power steering pump is faulty.do you have any steering problems i.e. hard to steer etc.If not change mechanics u may be misdiagnosed.

@smano. What is the connection between power steering pump and Automatic Transmission Fluid? Their functions are totally unrelated.

Thanks guys,I was beginning to think I won't get a reply from all the views.

I drive a Mitsubishi Lancer GDI,2001 model,1.8 auto.

The ATF has been leaking and my mech advised that the power steering pump needs to be replaced to stop the leaking. I have no problems with the steering until the ATF gets used up after which it starts making that jarring sound when am turning corners

The problem is that I have to keep refilling the ATF as it's leaking. Maybe I'm the one missing something but that's the situation as I understand it. Mis - diagnosis ama i didn't get what my mech meant? So the part he's been saying is hard to get is the power steering pump for my model of car.

@smano

Just try and get a second opinion. Where is the leaking coming from? Is it at the pipes,pump or where? have you had a look at the 'scene of crime' yourself ama you just sat in the car?I say this because Power steering pumps hardly get damaged unless they are run bila the fluid ( then they make thay noise you are talking about). I could bet that the leak is at the pipes because a mulfunctioning pump only makes your steering harden and soften bila mpango when you steer. Is this what you are exepriencing?

@bwenyenye,I believe it's the pipes - I also had a look and couldn't pinpoint where the leak was coming from so i just went with what my guy said. I'll definitely get a second opinion,am not about to splash cash unless it's absolutely necessary. Thanks guys
