'The queen of Katwe' appears to be based on a part of Bobby Fischer's biography, and for that reason, it's important to say that if the premise of Bobby is true, then this is the worst movie about chess that is for mostly African consumption.

'Searching for Bobby Fischer' is of course another movie that doesn't go deep enough to understand the learning and practice of the game.

And thus leaves an unjustifiably dangerous conception and lesson of what Chess is, and does to a person.

It's as if, when the tradition behind the game was forgotten, then the game was also lost.

A story can never be about only one person. The movie is also very strong on David Katande, the unsaid 'King of Katwe'.

So, somewhere in the Katwe movie, 'Coach' says to Phiona, 'Oh!You can see eight moves ahead...'

This to me is an act of violence to the minds of those who are watching, and more so, those who hold the fantasy of being great like Bobby Fischer.

Even a piece of music is played one bar at a time, and the movements in chess are similarly musical.

Such that beauty is only found when four moves are seen ahead and properly executed.

I wonder how the real Phiona experiences life nowadays. Could she also wish to disappear like Bobby did?

The Bobby Fischer story is one of the saddest chess stories. Especially considering that he's American. He was treated the way we treat our heroes in Kenya.

BBI will solve it

Why do people feel entitled? it has been proposed that if you (yourself or a your company) are to be considered valuable - two things must be true.

1 - that it creates "X" dollars of value for the world.
2- that you capture "Y" percent of "X.”

It's important to understand that "X" and "Y" are completely independent variables, and so "X" can be very big and "Y" can be very small. "X" can be an intermediate size and if "Y” is reasonably big, you can still have lots of value."X" can also be fairly small but of "Y" is 100% of it - you will still live a decent life. I know of a guy who builds software that does nothing more than create a formula for the stuff that goes into catalytic converters - that's it... just that! he is ever traveling the world. Why? his company delivers value and he cashes on almost all that value back. Airlines and restaurants suffer because they cannot cash in on the value they create because of competition (they compete their profits away) compared to something like safaricom that delivers value and cashes on it.

Back to sports - that's where professional footballers get it right and random Olympiads get it wrong - they create lots of value for the world and in that instance extract a percentage of it. Kenyan runners have understood this and they cash in on the value they create - they know where to make money and go for it.

@Masukuma, chess is not a sport, and in the case of Bobby Fischer, he died and left a decent amount of money and property.

I think @2012 is talking about something else. Something that most of us have lost a sensitivity to, and that is, a person's 'soul'. Each of us is entitled to receive protection and care from the collective.

Most of our heroes are a neglected lot in this dimension.

At the heart of existence is a and the game. Chess is the King of games and the game of Kings.

Training in knowing this game, takes more than what Bobby did and went through. And there was no one to help him.

When one looks at the history of Chess, and especially modern chess one notices something eery. It is very easy for most scholars - because it takes great scholarship for this game- to get serious mental illnesses.

Is this a coincidence?

Chess is a dangerous game, and making it a sport and simple source of revenue and amusement is a fatal mistake.

Interestingly, blind fold chess has an old history. Around 700 CE Arab, and Muslim scholars were doing blind fold games.

Why is blind folding important in the history of chess?
