The sh500m Passats deal is less than 10% of CMCs annual revenue [approx sh15b]

You will not see any major jump in profits due to this deal.

As I wrote earlier,CMC stands to gain greater marketing value [and the political hullabaloo isn't helping on that front] than actual financial gain.

Interestingly, there seems to be a lot of political hatred for this company. Remember how many celebrated when CMC lost the tender to supply Land Rovers to the police [the GoK bought Toyota Land Cruisers]?

Now that CMC has beaten DT Dobie on the Ministers' cars deal, politicians are up in arms calling a PAC investigation...and inviting TV cameras to the session [for the first time]

Their core business is sale and service of agricultural machinery, earth moving equipment and HCVs. An isolated sale in non-core business should not inform a quick jump into counter! It will be a big boost however if the government (parastatals included) decide to buy passats going forward.

The government buys cars every year you know, and expenses them (no depreciation).

CMC is so much more... The bad publicity is more of a hassle than anything else.

@ mukiha,CMC market share of agricultural tractors is 79% while for vehilces is 19%.

The 19% vehicles market share of course includes trucks and buses.

Request to have a look at the yards beyond the smart show rooms that showcase the Fords,Landrovers and suzukis.

Lo and behold, the tractors,'naked' trucks and buses, other machinery! hundreds of them. This is where CMC mints its moneys.
