Taxes are almost similar to Kenya, houses are roughly 35-40k for a descent (just decent not upmarket) house (and that's around 2006 rates) - good thing with SA the house finishing is good even for the middle class.

Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

that's like 240k a month. guess if you earn less than 40% of that then go. gauteng is a province and its where joburg is at. a decent hao in gated community around randburg or mandela square starts from 70k kshs. security is a major issue so better live up markettish. and befriend a zulu or zimb but not their women unless you serious. they will not hesitate to organise a hit if you bring nyoko nyoko and want to ponyyoka after your tour of duty

@ brav,

which location will you be your duty station? Johannesburg,Pretoria,Krugersdorp,Soweto,Sandton,Magaliesburg,Mindrand,Springs???

300K rands annually is beautiful money by the local standards (RSA) and when used locally, but the South African authorities have very strict rules governing the repatriation of money...the last time i enquired about this, they were allowing a maximum of R5000 per month. so many foreigners would accumulate many rands, then travel to Botswana to send it....no wonder that is why we don't have many diaspora from RSA doing any meaningful investment back here.

25k per month is enough to cater for all your needs and save atleast a quarter as houses are not expensive in middle class estates. foods too are relatively cheap...

the only shinda is thuggery and xenophobia...
