The Company has also decided to make a significant provision against receivables from supermarkets in Kenya that have been extremely slow to pay. As a result of these factors, profit after tax declined 18.9% to KES 144.9 million from KES 178.8 million in FY 2015, representing earnings per share of KES 0.90.

This is attributable to Nakumatt. For uchumi the issue started in 2015 so they could have made provisions in FY2015.
Soon you will see even financial institutions which have availed credit to nakumatt start putting provisions.
The situation at Nakumatt ni kubaya sanaaa

Sometimes suppliers delay taking provisions in the false hope they will be paid. Or take partial provisions. I wonder if FTGH has taken a full provision. All firms needs to to do if Nakumatt owes them money including Unga.

Retailers like Uchumi and Nakumatt failing to pay suppliers is just robbery in broad daylight. Nobody buys anything in a supermarket on credit, it is all cash at the till. The only reason they would fail to pay is only blatant theft. I believe with the current technologies it should be possible for all suppliers to be paid as soon as their item is paid for at the cashier. All FMCG suppliers should form a lobby group to make this possible. You should not be chasing your money for products that have been bought and paid for in cash.

One of the most frustrating things ever in business is chasing your own money from debtors. It is in my opinion the greatest breeding ground for major corruption.
