1. The ruling on the legal petition was not delivered on Wednesday last week as the presiding judge was away. It will now be mentioned on Tuesday, 13th Sept.

2. The residents and community had a meeting with representatives of Kenya Railways this past Wednesday. The community was very vocal with their views: "You are cheating about the SGR route. The park is not negotiable and that is the position of the community." More here: http://www.the-star.co.k...ajiado-locals_c1417144. The SaveNNP campaign will continue to stand by the community as we move forward.

3. The Conservation Alliance has been working on seeking professional inputs on the routings proposed. This will help us build a technical case against the railway going through the park.

4. KUAPO has started documenting oral history of the communities living south of the park and why it is important to them. KUAPO will also print copies of an InfoGraph in English and Kiswahili to assist with civic education.

5. A joint protest march is being planned for early October. An exact date and how you can participate will be communicated in due course.

6. We have some online activity that we want you all to help be part of to help spread the message, also please start posting on this event page, its where all our saveNPP efforts should be going here is the link; https://www.facebook.com/events/108536799560626/ , you may start immediately on any of these ;

A. PHOTO CAMPAIGN 1; Our park is in danger and we need your help! Its as simple as this:
1. Get an A4 paper and write down your favourite wildlife animal from the national park with the hastage at the bottom
#SaveNNP
#DontYouDareDestroyOurPark
2. Take a selfie or a picture with you holding the paper
3. Post it on instagram, facebook, twitter or on all and caption it with the hastages and your own personal message of saving the park 4.Nominate 3 people to do the same

B. The great migration to the park
Save your park visit it now! The save the Nairobi national park campaign has started 'THE GREAT MIGRATION TO THE PARK' in hope that people who may not able to come for the walks, or forums or social media, can go and visit the park and show that they want to save the park, through supporting the park. So people go visit the park, take pictures of their drive and post it on the Save Nairobi National Park Campaign event page with the message, SAVE YOUR PARK, VISIT IT NOW #SAVENNP #TheGreatMigration. For FONNAP this shouldn't be too hard for us, You can also nominate others to join the great migration. We also suggesting for a physical day that the great migration happens is Sunday 18th September where we can mobilise the NAIROBIANS to join in the great migration.

C. PHOTO CAMPAIGN 2
TB - Throw back
We want to flood the event page, and social media with memories we have of the park. So posting old pictures of our drives in the park, BBQs and experiences on twiitter, facebook, the event page, IG etc. with the hashtag #TBNNP SAVENNP and the caption of our memory and; 'We Want more memories with our NNP;. You can also nominate others to share their memories.

There are a couple more initiatives being worked on, many of which will need your support, and information on this will be shared at an appropriate time.

List of organizations who are part of this working committee:
1. Oloosirkon community and Residents Association

the animals and I can agree to share the paths.. we only need to agree how.
Heck..I want them to roam around, see them,....
But they should also allow me to move around quickly..really quickly.

If it passed through Tsavo why not NNP?

I think the Nairobi National Park is a total waste of space. In my opinion the whole park should be closed and the land well planned and subdivided for both residential and commercial use. It is of no use kabisa. I do not think even its revenues justify its existence. It is just one of the vestiges of colonization and we keep it because some rich wazungus think it is important but to a majority of Kenyans and especially Nairobians this park has no value at all.

Some MP should begin drafting a law for its dissolution and if that does not work subject the question to a referendum by Nairobians and I am sure majority will vote to do away with it.

We cannot be living in congestion while 28,963 acres are just left out for animals. Even the tourists who come do not come to Nairobi so that they can go to the National Park.

As long as I can be assured of only 5 acres out of the 28k,I will support otherwise let it be a National park even if we are left with two monkeys roaming the vast land

Because the animals in Tsavo have an alternative in Amboseli while the NNP animals alternative is Langata estate

You can't compare the size and room for movement for animals at tsavo and NNP. Though I support closure of the latter, currently operating on sentimental than strategy.

The animals in Tsavo did not move, they accommodated the rail

This is a classic tunnel vision syndrome. Why must the railway go right through the park. Supposing there was no park, then people would have built right where the park currently lies, would the railway still insist on moving the people for the trains to get to Kisumu/UG on time.

Very lazy planning by govt. That Railway is a good opportunity for the govt to expand the living space around Nairobi beyond the current zones and develop better town plans.

We should find that unoccupied space and let the animals be. Example why can't it pass through the vast kajiado plains south of the park, how long will the trains delay by if they detoured around the park.

Some of us really enjoy driving around the park over the weekends with family.

With reference to the diagram below, could you please explain how they would have gotten to the said Kajiado plains south of the park from the Nrb south depot? The railway is passing OVER the NNP even planes fly over the NNP. Note the KWS board rejected the construction of a tunnel

The depot is close to JKIA.

Which Kenya do you live in? You trust Kenyan politicians and bureaucrats to judiciously use the land for the benefit of other Kenyans?
By the time DPORK gets his share and Weta gets his share and the commissioner of lands gets his share and the Chief of Police gets his share,..............there will be no land left. We will be back to square one.

Truth be told, the Nbi National Park is too small an ecosystem for a sustainable park. It should at best be converted to a Zoo with all the animals enclosed.

With all the migratory paths on the Kitengela side fully occupied, the animals in the park have been held captive within a very small area of land

Does this mean we have settled (and congested) all lands from syokimau to katani to lukenya, kitengela, isinya, Tuala, Juja farm, kamulu etc etc and the only land available now is Nairobi national park?

It is totally wrong to state that the park has no value at all to Nairobians, when majority of them live in flats/apartments and slums and the only large place they can relax and get fresh air is that national park.

vroom! vroom! vroom! Ethiopia will leave us in a cloud of dust, as people from @kiash land with their paved walkways, humongous roads and excellent railways find a way of dealing with their boredom

How would they know if the only form of relaxation they know is phombe? Instead of spending 3k on a weekend on phombe, nyama, fish etc why not put 1k fuel in the car and take the family on an afternoon game drive at the park? If you dont have a car you could hire a taxi at 2k for the same, and even KWS has scheduled tour buses for those who do not have cars. City life shouldn't only be about being imprisoned in your apartment or visiting the pub.

A clap for you @hardwood.

I think @Kusadikika is just being emotional. Do you think if the park is "dissolved", you will get a share of the land? Not likely. The truth is that the same rich guys you mentioned will have it in thousands through proxies and resell it to you at exorbitant prices... That would be the easiest ticket for them to own an additional land.

There is nothing I love more than having my cold tusker at the picnic site within the park on a saturday afternoon with family and friends - and in the company of lions, wildebeestes and rhinos. No need to travel to maasai mara when I have nature on my doorstep. Sad that I am always in the company of msungus and muhindis on such occasions coz the African middle class is drowning in phombe in smoke filled estate pubs at that time.
