being the son of a father who never had shoes until he went to form 1 and you had them since you were born. Why do some parents feel the need to pass on their childhood pains to their children?? There is no positive lesson to be learned from such stories, only guilt and bitterness.

You don't seem to get it. The whole idea is to spur you to aspire to greater heights, not to just be comfortable in the shoes he bought for you since day 1. Meaning if he could afford to get you shoes since you were born, you should aspire to get your children an even more comfortable life as they grow up, for example, being ferried to school by the driver in a Range Rover, not in the local matatu! Don't stagnate.
