Someone once did a study of Today's Artists and artists from antiquity and came up with the conclusion that the artists of antiquity generally lived fuller lives. The reason they did that is because they did not have to compete with their former selves. The concept of the "muse" was very present and the "muses" would give someone amazing artistic skills and insight then like the wind move to someone else. So the creativity was not thought of as an individual's possession - this did not put any pressure on the artist on his next release. if the next release "stunk" it was not because the artist was incapable of recreating his art but rather the muses had gone and empowered someone else. Our worldview today is such that we place too much on the artist. Remember
Darling P? imagine the pressure on him for the next release? Then he released it and it STUNK TO HIGH HEAVEN! Artists are always trying to create that magic that put them on the limelight and it's hard and our worldview is such that we say... "siku hizi sio mnoma". No wonder the artists try to recreate the experiences sometimes with drugs since the great days are behind them. It's harsh!
