Ugandan cars in kenya

I travelled to eldoret and nakururecently and found soo many cars with uganda number plate, i approached one guy and said its cheaper to buy in UG,
I want to try one, who has an experience.

The reason as to why it's cheaper is because there is no age limit in uganda,you can buy a 2000 yr premio for USD 1000 and pay taxes of USD 1000(not sure but based on assumption and depreciation)

Cars are very cheap in UG mainly because of favorable tax regime on car importation. The drawbacks to UG cars are;
1) The car has to be stopped by each and every cop to 'check papers', meaning from Kinoo to CBD you will be stopped at-least 6 times every morning.
2) You have to go to the UG border (or JKIA(??)) every 6 months to renew your papers.

It's "cheap" as long as you do not register it in Kenya. The moment you do that, the taxman appears with custom and dumping fee demands. The you realize you are better off buying an already registered car.It also means that the car has very low resale value since nobody wants to get stuck with endless issues.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Back in 97, a guy i know did what you are thinking but finally the taxman caught up with him. The case dragged through the years,took toll on his wealth and eventually, he was jailed for 18 months and the car confiscated by the state. All that trouble because he wanted to save kindu 200K. It's just plain stupid.
