I made a post about this a while ago,not naming the parts dealer but now I will since its costine me money (and could save YOU money).

Anyway,the third part I suspected (timing cover) it turns out is crap and has failed within two weeks of being fitted. (Labour 300,part itself 1,900 - and now its leaking).

Just before it was the release bearing which cost Kshs 1600 and abt 3,000 labour since the whole engine had to come out to access the clutch assembly (make that 1600+3000 x 2 since this process was repeated and it has been 2 weeks now so I am still holding my breath).

You want a name where I got these? Impala Auto Spares.

I'm intent on pursuing this with KEBS to see what they say about the quality.....

Does anyone have similar experiences?

@Djinn,

The Impala guys usually ask you if you wany Taiwanese or 'original' as in made by Valeo,

Automotor etc...Which ones did you buy?

I doubt whether whether KEBS has the capacity to test car spares.

@Chaka - I am actually surprised this post survived - the last one I made,giving the full details seems to have been deleted.

Anyway the parts were 1) Window Winder mechanism - I asked for Automotor which cost Kshs 1300 (Taiwan they said would cost 700) - Said winder went bust after a month. 2) Release bearing - they said it would either be Sasic or Valeo - I asked for Valeo - paid 1600 (plus 3000 to drop the engine). 3) Timing cover - this one has no markings but the plastic bag it came in had some familiar label (but lets remember I can make nuts at home and re-seal them in a known food manufacturer's plastic bags (just like they used to do with alcohol sachets).

So,in all instances I have asked for GENUINE - I do not joke with engine parts. I'll accept TAIWAN for 'fast moving' or brittle items like indicator lenses,wipers,body trim,etc - but not engine or electronic parts (alternator,starter,etc)

So I ASKED for and PAID the price for GENUINE. BTW I spoke to KEBS - they do have a lab for testing parts - my worry is that,like many other organs,they might already be compromised since spare parts is a billion shilling business.
