Commentary:
The first half of the year 2015 proved to be quite challenging blah blah blah negative international publicity....insecurity, terrorism threats, the Ebola epidemic and the poaching menace...slow down in international leisure..... (KQ feel free to C&P)
The Company's East African portfolio recorded encouraging business levels in the corporate business segment, although bookings are at very short lead times and this positive trend is expected to continue for the rest of the year.
The latest British Travel advisory on the Kenya Coast was lifted on 19th June 2015 and the tourism industry players have been working closely with the Government of Kenya to implement recovery measures... The high profile events that are scheduled to take place during the second half of year 2015 are indeed defining moments and they underline East Africa's increasing importance in geopolitical and economic matters in Sub-Saharan Africa.
...The results for the first half of the year are not a basis for forecasting a full year's result (Hilarious!). The business outlook for the peak season (July to October 2015) is expected to be at satisfactory levels.
During year 2015 and 2016, Serena Hotels is expected to begin extension and refurbishment projects at Nairobi Serena Hotel, Kampala Serena Hotel and Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel
The Group continues to implement the refurbishment of its other properties.
The board and Management continue to remain confident that notwithstanding the challenging business environment, the Group has the inherent strength and business resilience to continue to focus on its long term prospects, thus safeguarding its financial standing, market share and leading position in the industry.

We have thick skin. It is true that the business is seasonal so you H1 and h2 are very different profit wise. Management sounds optimistic for once in a long time

@aguy am also on this bus intending to exit 55-60 range, but I have been vocal that management should concentrate on the conference/business travel clientele. Serena Nairobi should have had 1st priority to host POTUS!

Unlike the past, Serena Nairobi has competition. I am not sure why Kempinski was chosen for POTUS but I like the long-term focus of the Management. A Rights Issue is in the offing in 2016.

@Sparkly - I think Serena Nairobi is primarily a business not leisure hotel but it may host tourists on their way to/from tourist spots e.g. Mara.

Hi Pesa Nane,

Thanks for posting. Do you have the balance sheet or know where to find it?
