think there are numerous threads on equity but was surprised to present my visa card for purchaces in a leading electronic outlet recently,and a shock of life awaited; sorry the equity visa (debit & credit) cards have been stripped of the visa status,and therefore are not recognised as so for transaction purposes.

Funny I just withdrew money from a Barclays account with my Equity VISA card. So I don't see the truth behind this.
The truth is a lot of merchants don't like to be paid by cards coz it takes sometime before they can get their hands on the money. So they will come up with some random excuse to make you pay cash.

ATMs dispense cash & use either KenSwitch or PesaPoint as switches thus allows banks to expand their network of ATMs without actually installing ATMs.

As for using the card at merchants... I think it uses the VISA network/process.
