Are Dyer and Blair Serious???

I am seated next to someone who has just called Dyer and Blair to enquire about her shares. She was asked what her CDS Account number was but she couldn't remember she. She supplied them with her ID number and they read her all the shares she has - quantities and all. No 'control questions' like 'when was the last time you bought/sild shares. Which ones?' were asked. What the hell???

One only needs to get hold of your ID number, which is extremely easy to get - from numerous documents all over, call Dyer and Blair and they are given the whole breakdown of your holdings!!?? That's shocking.

Bye bye privacy as far as Dyer and Blair and their staff are concerned. And this after the sending account statements to the wrong addresses saga discussed last week!!!
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

personally I dont consider it wrong to know wat someone owns or somebody to know what I own in shares terms,the structure of shares ownership in companies is actually published for everyone to see its only that we are very small shareholders reffered to as others,otherwise were it not for space, our names can also appear for anyone to read....I consider your argument as the search we do to land or vehicles otherwise much beaurocracy will make it very hard for next of kins to know wat is left incase of death....the precautions should only apply when selling.shares can never be equivalent to bank details

@mlennyma - How is this different from your bank details?
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Actually, one needs to keep their id no very private as its one of the very few identifiers we have, Go to http://www.image.co.ke/Dividend and notice how much damage you may get just by putting your ID out there. Even when you lose your login for CDSC, all you need is your ID and email.

@murchr - It is not about putting your ID Number out there. There are very many other entities that require your ID number but don't need to know your bank details, CDS account details etc.

Someone using what the need and know to obtain what they don't need nor know is a serious security lapse. Anyone in charge of information should make sure this never happens!

I classify shares as your car,house,plot,etc,this is money not converted yet,, bank accounts deal with money but it seems the professional ethics in banks may be different, from brockrage

Did they give the bank details? And they didn't send account statements rather they copied online clients while replying on an emailinstead of online share trading.
how does one recover their password from CDSC?

This post is meant to potray D&B in bad light. What risk is there for someone out to know I have 18 shares of Kengen or 60,000 shares of Everyday? Someone tell me

Let me jog your mind a bit. A couple of years back major companies were advising their employees not to walk around with their work IDs. Why? Kidnappers were using the name of the company and position to gauge how much ransom to demand for.

A free lesson to people who don't understand data protection. You should only avail information to people (including employees) that they NEED to do their jobs. You should not ask what is the risk if so and so knew xyz. You should ask does so and so require to know xyz to complete their tasks?
