http://www.kurwituventures.com/ They say in an advert that they will be listing 102,272 shares under GEMS to start trading on 13th Nov. 2014. I cant understand what they do, even as I read their website. Is there anyone who knows them?

Kurwitu Ventures is a pioneer in its chosen field as a provider of sharia compliant investment products.

Basically, they seem to be raising funds from Islamic organizations for investment in agricultural businesses.

This is what they say on their website.

"Kurwitu Ventures will invest in opportunities that provide a reasonable amount of management control. Agriculture is the top foreign exchange earner in the economy, yet it is also plagued with several structural inefficiencies".

Addressing these inefficiencies could provide superior returns. Although the focus in on agriculture, Kurwitu will make effort to invest in non-agriculture ventures that meet the key Sharia Compliance Test and has the potential to post attractive return on capital.

This is not my cup of tea. Something seems odd but I cannot put my finger on it yet. Perhaps a bit of Home Afrika?

When did it list on the NSE?

@VVS From their website I think these guys could very well be the NSE. One of the company's goals is:

Confirmed. we're in a bull market. I would pick olympia capital any day (i would never pick olympia). Ther company history is scaring to say the least.

"The founders of the Company decided to inject fresh capital into the capital and make it a vehicle of Sharia Compliant Investments in 2012. In 2013 the Board of Directors decided to focus on restructuring the company and prepare it for a listing on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. Hence all effort was invested in the restructuring process and no revenue was posted to the company books."

A company with no revenue in the last year, that was formed 8 years ago, which restructured 2 years ago, wants to list on the NSE. I give up

@Aguy ...no listing possible...even companies listing on the GEMS market must have had at least turnover of Kshs. 10 m in the past 1-2 years...profitability's not considered...interesting take though would be if it's a Somali-backed business...they are normally more interested in making money than governance/ management issues...still...it doesn't cut

Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

long copy paste-alert!!

Kurwitu Ventures was incorporated in 23rd August, 2006. It was issued with a certificate of Incorporation on 8th September, 2006. The Certificate of Incorporation is C. 128146.

The name Kurwitu is borrowed from an ancient vanished settlement that existed in present day Kilifi County to the sea side of the villages of Shariani and Vipingo. Kurwitu beach exists close to the ancient site of the old settlement.

The Company was formed to provide Investment Management Services. It did not meet the original intentions due to the busy nature of the founders. At a certain point in 2012, the Board of Directors had to make a strategic decision on the future of the company as it became obvious that the company required some new ideas and direction.

The founders of the Company decided to inject fresh capital into the capital and make it a vehicle of Sharia Compliant Investments in 2012. In 2013 the Board of Directors decided to focus on restructuring the company and prepare it for a listing on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. Hence all effort was invested in the restructuring process and no revenue was posted to the company books.

Company Objectives
Kurwitu Ventures is a pioneer in its chosen field as a provider of sharia compliant investment products. It is the first company listed on the NSE with a focus on attracting Islamic investors into the capital markets.
As part of our mission Kurwitu Venture has outlined the following key strategic goals and objectives:

a) Leading Investment Vehicle: To become the number one Sharia Compliant investment vehicle by being client-driven and consistently seeking high returns for our investors

b) Trusted Intermediary: To be the trusted investment intermediary of sharia compliant products. Kurwitu Ventures intends to do so by adhering to prudence, integrity and fiduciary responsibility

c) Innovation: To introduce innovative products to the capital markets

d) High Returns: To give investors a competitive return on their investment given the specific investment risk; and

e) Good Governance: Adopt strong systems of internal governance and controls whilst embracing a culture of innovation
