But what are the benefits? If the benefits are worth it then I'm ok with it.

BBI will solve it

1.Upon admission in hospital an NHIF member is accorded services and the hospital makes a claim to the Fund for reimbursement
2.An in-patient cover for the contributor, declared spouse and children
3.Provides comprehensive medical cover in majority of over 400 accredited Government facilities, Mission health providers and some private health providers across the country
4.Provides in-patient services in private and high cost hospitals on a co-payment basis
5.Comprehensive maternity and CS (Caesarian) package in government hospitals, majority of mission and some private hospitals
6.Dialysis at Kenyatta National Hospital & Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital at a rebate
7.Family planning – Vasectomy and Tubal Ligation
8.NHIF does not exclude any disease.

In addition to the current benefits, under the proposed out-patient cover, members will enjoy the following benefits:

Prescribed laboratory tests/investigations
Drugs/medicines
Prescribed X-rays and ultra sound diagnosis
Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections
Treatment, dressing or diagnostic testing
Family planning
Ante-natal and post-natal care
Clinical counseling services
Health and wellness education
General consultation with general practitioners.

NHIF is inefficient,in 2014, they collected contributions amounting to KES 13.83 Billion of which 33% was used for operating expenses, 66% paid out as benefits and a surplus of only KES 793 M

if they can offer that, then that sounds decent - I know most medical insurance target an administration cost of around 15%, so hiyo 33% is a bit on the higher side - lakini lazima ingoko zichinjwe.

Has any wazuan mido class managed to access health care services in any of the top private hospitals using the NHIF card/insurance since the rate were hiked?

All civil servants and police now enjoy full and comprehensive coverage in all public and top private hospitals include expensive admissions in India and beyond.

A mido class would rather take a hospital loan than be seen with that blue, color smudged card. So don't expect any answers.

I find this NHIF thing being very useless. They talk of one being covered for services at public and top private hospitals yet they restrict me to some queer private clinics stashed in places like Kawangware, Wanyee and such like. I saw a list where one is supposed to pick a private hospital of his choice yet in that list you will not find any reputable private facility despite contributing the optimum amount. Madam and I contribute 1,700 each. I just wish one can be exempted from this we consolidate the contributions, top up slightly and direct that to a more reputable health medical cover.
