Plans to split KRA

Plans were announced in 2013 to split KRA into two semi-autonomous entities — the Domestic or Inland Tax Agency and the Customs and Border Control Agency.

Now IMF has recommended that Kenya shelves the plans for now saying that our systems are not ready for it

I think we have progress with inland revenue collection but I am not convinced re our customs and border control...

The layman in me thinks we are better of with a split one. Think KP& TC of yore

The KP&TC split definitely worked well

I think that in the long term, the KRA split would work well - so long as the different entities communicate

@butterflyke, KP&TC has worked well because it separated the player (telkom)and the referee(CCK)functions.

If you recall your history, KRA was previously made up of separate entities, we had Transport, Income Tax, Sales Tax etc, all independent. I suspect it was one of those World Bank SAPs that made us merge them all into one.
