Barcelona midfielder Xavi has launched another attack on Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, hitting out at ‘The Special One’s’ footballing philosophy.

The Spain international, who was regularly critical of the Portuguese while he was in charge of Clasico rival Real Madrid, insists Pep Guardiola and Johan Cruyff are examples of coaches who want their sides to play football in the right way.

“Pep Guardiola is an important person for me - Jose Mourinho is a coach who focuses only on results,” Xavi told Panenka magazine. “He says he is ‘The Special One’ because he won this and that in so many countries but I do not like the way his teams play.

“Who remembers the Inter side who were champions of Europe? For me, he has not left a legacy, unlike Cruyff has in the Netherlands.”

Xavi was also critical of former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo, who guided the Blues past Barca in the Champions League semifinals on their way to winning the competition in 2012.

“Di Matteo was the same [as Mourinho]," the playmaker argued. "He won the Champions League, but from my point of view that team didn’t play at all.

“I am happy playing for Barca because of our philosophy.”

Xavi has been a vocal critic of Mourinho tactics, while he also hit out at the Portuguese coach for his treatment of international teammate Iker Casillas during his final months at the helm of Madrid.

What Xavi said is exactly what almost all football pundits have been saying all along concerning Mourinho's football philosophy, for him it has always been about getting the result. Let's just say that he's not a coach who gives his players freedom to express themselves on the pitch. He recently admitted that he might need to change his own style of play to make Chelsea more efficient infront of goal.

‘If I want to win 1-0, I think I can. One of the easiest things in football is to win 1-0. I don’t want to because we are going in a direction which is the right direction in terms of the quality of football we want to play, and it’s quite frustrating that you have to change that and go one step back and go in another direction just because you want better results.’ Mourinho

Results and trophies definitely matter for the fans but for the players it has to be more than that. As a player you need to enjoy the game and feel you are being properly utilized based on your skills....that will help you develop as a player. Hata Abramovich wants attractive football...

Coming from an Arsenal fan, I think you should be siding with Mourinho on this. If the Gooners were to play beautiful football for 20 years with no trophy, would that really matter to any one? Xavi can say that coz he won trophies and is irked when teams don't play a la Barca. You think Chelsea fans and players cared more about football style than winning the Champions League? Players will be remembered for what they won, unless they were exceptional, kama akina Muhammet Yavuz, who we know as Augustine 'Jay Jay' Okocha.

@Jus Blazin.....Wacha kuleta mambo ya Arsenal, everyone knows we've not won a trophy in a long time so our situation is a bit different from Barca, Chelsea, Real & Inter. This is about Mourinho's football philosophy, i think it has always been about pleasing the fans and not necessarily developing his players. I think he's probably suited to clubs which are desperate for a trophy kama Arsenal or L'pool. At this point do you think Mata gives a rats a**** about what Mourinho wants to achieve. At some point when he was at Real CR7 protested against those defensive tactics, i believe that's what eventually led to his exit.....the fans & mgt simply couldn't take it anymore. Abramovich has already has what he wanted (CL glory) now he wants to see his team playing good football. You don't spend over 100m on akina Hazard, Oscar and Schurle then play like Stoke. The first landing is always special and exciting but itafika mahali you'll have to perform some mid-air maneuvers to make all worth while especially if you have the right equipment.
