Just got home, sober and clean! been drinking all sorts of non alcoholic stuff since 6 pm and at 10, I could not stand it. Headed home, with my wallet heavier than when I entered the club because a friend paid back a loan ( in normal circumstances this would have been cleaned in the club!)Thank you alcoblow! And so from today I have quit taking the stuff...Guess that is what mututho wants. Let us see where the government will get money to pay teachers not to go on strike. I guess China will fill in the hole that has been left by the likes of me who have quit the stuff for fear of being harassed by the Police. ...And by the way how many accidents are caused by one drunk @Magigi heading home at midnight? My car is not a passenger vehicle! I get drunk and head home alone...somebody should explain this shit to me!

Nowadays I take a mat to the pub when its early and a taxi back. Also means I can drink whisky and get really drunk. I used to hold back, ending the night at 5 or 6 Tuskers and the whisky only at home. The taxi only costs me about 600/-. However, the cops have disappeared! I am on Langata road right now and nothing. They havent been heard since the first bust on TV ....by Feb it appears this will be a thing of the past, just like before.

1. 3years ago, a guy we grew up with in shags...heavily drunk. Driving along Isiolo-Meru road. At around 2am...crushed with his Toyota Raum n died on the spot. 2. Last year but one...2012. A guy we were in campus with...was working for KCB. They are so drunk, driving along Mombasa road. Kufika Nyayo, they forgot kuna round-about. Drove on top of it. Car crushed. Lives crushed. 3. Mid last year, July specifically. A friend from Nyeri. Guys quite drunk. They decide to road test a new Subaru. Drives along valley road, takes a turn at the Kenyatta avenue round about n drives upwards towards hurlingam. Just at the round about near Total, they forgot to break, hit a car that was already on the round about. Guys rushed to Nairobi hospital. Few days later, the guy is dead... Those r guys I knew personally. Very young n promising lives lost. There are many more such sad stories. They had driven b4 when drunk but these were just days they either took slightly more, or they were tired, or whatever. Only them could tell the tale, but its too late. Dead gives no stories. If only alcoblow had come, maybe they could have feared on those specific nights n they wud still be with us. About Govt n EABL, they better have you drink a few bottles n drink for long, than drink 20 bottles n drink for your final night. Your longer live would make more business sense to them. One more challenge is that you may be OK risking your live like that, but on the way yu hit n kill or maim an innocent guy who was just driving safely. Why now? Don't drink when drunk. Its not fair to either you or other road users.

If you been drinking and/then driving, it isn't that you have been careful or your car knows its way home, you have just been lucky! Your luck is running out!

Its not fair to either you or other road users. well said.... the govt is trying to protect drunkards from themselves and protecting the innocent lives put into danger by this habit "The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score". - Bill Copeland

Having seen kenyan drivers even when sober, alcoblow should be fixed on their mouths 24 hours. The problem is not you, the problem is usually the other stupid drunk driver who thinks that he's now superman. Sorry, drunk driving should be stopped. Use taxis. the govt role is to protect you even from yourself that is why suicide is a crime. you are a source of tax the govt wants you alive and healthy so that you can work and pay them taxes. the govt ain't doing you a favor when they provide free health care. "Money never sleeps"

Much as this is a good thing, I fear this is another half-assed effort, Kenyan style, as is with many things. After the first 3 days of crackdown, and one down in Coast, has anyone heard from these guys again since? Then we are talking about 4 units of equipment ...a drop in the sea for a city of serious drinkers such as Nairobi. And the supply of the tubes, when they run out? The old procurement problems will arise and the meager 4 alcoblow units will sit unutilized,..teethless dogs ...how about proprietors? ... I am sure they are crafting ways of getting out from under this. Last time, the rumor was a popular establishment bribed the police not to set up shop near the exit of their premises ... Factor in all these and what will happen is that after the initial fear wears off, we'll settle back into our nonchalant, errant ways. People will get away with giving out a 1000/- or 500/- bribe after being caught over the alcohol limit. This is usually the amount when one is caught speeding on Nakuru highway or Thika road after Bluepost during non-holiday months. The alcoblow will no longer be a thing to be feared, just an inconvenience to be swatted away with a small bribe. This will be tragic. To avert this and keep it as a tool people fear, we need police reforms. Just stating the outlook.

If you're pals with Magigi, look for him this month. His pockets will be very heavy. I have the same problem. Even afraid of going to the local coz I have an unseasonably heavy wallet!
Maybe it's time for another Mbuzi to lighten some pockets ;)
