The 'cofee culture' of the west has picked well here in Kenya. We still prefer to take tea in our homes but when doing meetings we do coffee joints(and bars and choma places, but let's talk coffee!) How much would it cost to set up one? The interiors, those machines for coffee, staffing (I imagine I will need one 'good' guy, the rest will just have to be young people who can speak English. You first need to identify a location. Secondly in terms of how much it costs I would urge You to visit a coffee shop with a note book and take down details ; no of chairs, tables , coffee machines , menu , number of staff , fittings/ décor. This way You can come with a cost estimate .

It cost 60 million to establish one java outlet. It cost 1 million dollars ( not Zim. Ones) to put up Brew Bistro. Take heart though, you are not looking to start a Java or are you? Just trying to encourage a brother or sister. The way I see it, some guys have serious guts to put in that much cash in a coffee shop, therefore the bizna must be worth a try. Totally on point Wendz A lot of these stories are usually made up to stop the competition. Read the book, The Lean Startup. You will be shocked at how very small startups are the ones that succeed vs the ones that start with 1 million dollars. Jose: If I make it through this thug life, I'll see you one day. Saidia tafadhali Start small an learn as you grow. If Coffee is your passion try making your own blends you have access to the best coffee varieties in the world. Better still setup a tea house with Various tea varieties nowadays guys are drinking all sort of teas from Hibiscus to Nappier grass.

The depressing thing I have found is that very little has changed. These posts saying "tell me about this and that business, I want to start it" are all over the place with little thought or research having gone into this new "passion". We only make it worse when we encourage the day dreamers to dream big and never getting them to wake up and live that dream. In which case I totally agree with Tom ... Ati unataka java weka 60 million, that should wake you up or you can continue dreaming about irrigation in Tana River. If Lolest has specific questions ask, but dont expect a business plan with all the analytics done for you! PS: I say this in the true Wazua spirit.

I agree with Wendz,
my brother is a manager at Java and there is still a big gap of potential for in this service sector. Location being a factor, but also key is consistence and sustainable quality service across the value chain. Start small and create your niche brand with regards to your target clients.

Concentrate on Quality and Ambience..a small customer base will soon grow if you are persistent. What if one day Google was deleted and we couldn't Google what happened to Google
