Anyone here who can offer me a bird or two? I need to start keeping them. When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart.

There is no mass market of consumers and it will slowly die naturally like other pyramid schemes once the early adopters have made their cash and subsequent investors have no one to buy from them. It's a good way to make quick cash and then get out soonest. "Things that matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least." Goethe

I've followed arguments there wich sound convincing especially on the lower production costs when compared to chicken. But there's chicken in every restaurant I'm yet to see quail. I read some opinion piece which alleged that the whole extra nutrition story is hype

Quit your job Quote:Let’s now do some simple money calculations for quail farming in Kenya. Suppose you have 1000 quails. You will need 20kg (20g x 1000) of layers mash every day. That will cost you at most Ksh.600 (20kg x sh30). Quails are very good layers; each bird can give you up to 330 eggs per year for the first two years. That is to say they lay at a rate of about 90%. Thus, with 1000 quails, let’s expect 900 eggs each day. Now the best deal is that due to the great demand and little supply of quail eggs, they are currently being sold at Ksh.35 each. That’s no hype too! Just go to a supermarket stocking quail eggs and come tell us what you find out. So we have Ksh.31,500 in sales per day. Minus our feeding costs of Ksh.600 and any other running costs that definitely won’t go beyond Ksh.1000 per day, you have a clean Ksh30,000 profit per day. Sounds too good to be true, huh? But there, you have the facts. http://poultrysuccess.bl...ng-in-kenya-talk-of.html

Farming is like the story of Job in the old Testament. At one point you have 100 bulls in the field and the next minute a plague has struck and are at Nil! A guy recently told me that there is someone making 1 M from quill eggs ( 10,000 birds each laying an egg a day at a price of Kshs 100 an egg) which is a cool 300M a month gross. This being a legal business, it would make drug ballons envy wakulima. "Things that matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least." Goethe

For me its pure hype by the originators and reality is just around the corner. Consolation is that you can consume them if you do not get mkt. In Naxvegas where the quil rearing bug went viral, they are now giving the birds to Chokoras. The eggs are going for 10 bob........so I hear. For the sake of other people searching quail someone please change the topic from quill to quail. Quill is something different Quote:quill noun \ˈkwil\ : the hollow central part of a feather
: a large, stiff feather from the wing or tail of a bird
: a pen that is made from a feather
