Met some today at 8 pm as i was coming from shags with a four yr old andd an almost full car. They wanted to force me to take a victim to a hospital. It is a busy road and i did not see the sense of squezzing an unconsciuos patient next to a child and risk traumatising a kid for life were anything to happen on the way. What would you have done?

I care!

@thuks,
I understand what you are feeling.

Maybe next time, if your car is full, you could take one of those helpers and fetch a taxi in the next shopping centre with him, pay the driver and instruct them to take the accident victims to hospital.

You will feel that you've done something to help. This is just one way...I guess there are several other things one can do to help.

That is guilt gnawing at you, telling you that you did a dastardly thing. You want us to reassure you that what you did wasn't inhumane. It will not help, no matter what anyone tells you; Face it head on, pray for absolution and also forgive yourself, you can't undo the deed.

Public service vehicle drivers (Matatus) beat everyone else when it comes to assisting victims or road accidents regardless of whether the accidents involved public service vehicles or personal cars. I was once involved in an accident and to my dismay, all personal vehicle would just pass and look. Only a Matatu came to our rescue. A friend of mine has been involved in an accident twice in a personal car and in both instances, he and the family were taken to hospital by Matatu crew.

How come the people who society considers more less educated and intelligent responds better than others when there is a call to demonstrate some form of humanity?

@Thuks. Take this as a learning lesson. But next time, be ready to be a little bit inconvenienced to assist your fellow human being. And learn to differentiate between a reason and an excuse for not helping. Also learn to be a quick thinker and offer any kind of assistance like the one proposed above if you are not in a position to use your vehicle.

Me me me I myself.. My thoughts were so much of me I and myself, that they were full and there was a small kid I wanted to teach to think of himself personally and not traumatize the self, that I myself personally come first especially if my car is full of myself personally!

Wow! I'm guessing you just taught that kid not to give a damn about unconscious/helpless people... and then to run to wazua/*insert place where you think other heartless people might congregate* to look for 'moral support'.

Quick question
1. What if that guy died? And timely medical attention, which you'd have facilitated, would have saved him... you'd be good,no?
2. What if you were unconscious, and some (good)guy with a car and a kid rolls by...
3. I really hope you never expect help from that kid, especially if you ever become unconscious... (and we ask what became of todays generation, if this is what we teach them)

Many have assumed that I have never assissted. I have had on occasion taken victims to hosputal and even went to bring in the police in another. But when the helpers try to snatch car keys from me, that is different. Stand on the high ground and point fingers all your want.

Also note: On a busy highway

@Thuks,
You ask, and I answer I would have done NOTHING, just as you did NOTHING (congrats), bcoz you wanted to teach NOTHING to your child but ended up teaching him how HEARTLESS you are. I say again... I'll have done NOTHING.

You posted your scenario here and you did not expect to be judged??
We always worry so much about kids, probably the kid would not have told the difference between someone who is asleep and someone who is unconscious. Guilt is what is eating you up, and just so you know, God will not judge by the many good deeds, but by the little stupid things that we will do or not do.
About 10 years ago, i was in an accident on Thika road, a good Samaritan in a 'red car' rushed me to Aga Khan, he did not leave his name or contacts and no one seemed to remember the number plates for his car, guy saved my life, am sure he had to take his car to the car wash for a thorough wash due to the bleeding.

I would like to meet and thank the guy in person, since i have not had a chance, i have a scar from the accident that i see everyday and i thank him everyday and pray he gets blessed.

Now you might have a chance to right the wrong, do not let it pass, for that is when you will start feeling better...

agree with you good to give assistance but depends on circumstances. so much can go wrong.
1. you take the victim to the hospital and three months down the line you are the one being sued with the victim's relatives and others being witnesses against you...needless to say having not been the culprit you never reported it to your insurance so no insurance cover for you...
2.you stop to help a 'victim' only for them to morph into car jackers...
3. you handle a bloody accident victim and probably get some diseases and mukiri would tell you how you listened to maka too much.

and with guys trying to grab your keys and all there was no way I would have opened my door to them even to take one and go get a cab. most likely would help themselves to your luggage to create space in your car...end of the day your first responsibility is to yourself and child.

It happened, and you know the exact circumstances better than all of us. You used gut feeling, to make the decision, like most (if not all) do.

Life has always been fragile, a minute you laugh, the next, something happens to you, until you touch yourself just to confirm that you still exist.
