It depends on the amount of money you, have,in kenya there are good laptops(latest) provided you have the cash.

Or are you asking of the models

Acer and toshiba have a tendency of overheating. I prefer HP. Money range?

I would advice you to go for more known brands than the South African Mecer brand. And my reason....SUPPORT! I have bought people around 7laptops in the last 4 months,5 were HP and 2 were Dell. Dell on average is more pricier than HP. The kind of support they offer from their website is excellent and if you don't believe me just compare http://ftp.mustek.co.za/...t.php?dir=Repository%2F which is mecer's excuse for a support website to Dell's http://support.dell.com/...rt/downloads/index.aspx and HP's http://h10025.www1.hp.co...mp;product=3664943& for example and see the difference. The reason why support is so important is that you will probably need to update your machine's drivers from time to time especially if you like formatting the hard disk everytime a major virus hits you. Mecer might provide you with a drivers CD at the start, probably for XP drivers, but what if you want to later switch to Vista? They dont even have vista drivers on their site!.......So save yourself headaches, buy an original HP. You can get the following specs at around 46k

1.7 Duo Core Processor
1GB DDR2 Ram memory
15' Truebright widescreen
120GB Sata Hard disk
In biult webcam
3 USB ports
DVD Writer drive......etc

With 55k you can get kitu
1.8 Ghz Duo Core Processor
1GB DDR2 Ram
Same screen or 17'
160GB Hard disk
Webcam
Bluetooth
Card Reader
Good Looks.......

yah.....thats my view.

check out these websites:

most of the laptops in kenya are refurbished but sold as new.
Acer extensa 5220 best value for money (39k @pcworld) for starters, dont believe in the dualcore hype if using xp no noticeable difference.

Its true guys are buying refurbished laptops buts its easy to tell one:

-HP kenya 2 months ago wrote a newspaper notice of all its authorised resellers
-Make sure the PART No. at the back of the laptop is same as that on the carton.
-Make sure it has original EOM Vista already installed on it.

Easy!
I would not advice anyone to buy that extensa at that price, nice machine but 1yr from now it will be totally obsolete. No offense.Technology moves fast. And there is a clear diff in performance btwn Duo core,Core 2 Duo and single core machines. Just try and burn a DVD movie u will notice it.
