I think the UK is just protecting its people from future effects of khat....here no one really wants to talk about it..I understand that it can be processed to make a drug and 'good' as cocaine...

Amphetamine actually. The active ingredients in khat - cathinone, methcathinone and I think merucanthin or something like that - are structural analogues of amphetamine, a potent drug of abuse.

This has been in the news for too long now.
Khat is big business, as part of perishable exports.
What will happen to Meru farmers and cartels since the somalia market is well supplied.

China's population is 21 times that of UK. I think we should teach them how to chew miraa as they are building roads at night.
If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.

this morning i watched meru county women rep kajuju on the citizen 'power' breakfast show in a discussion with a dr mutisya on the banning of miraa.

she questioned the banning of miraa on the basis of the impact it will have on livelihoods and said the govt has a parliamentary committee looking into this issue.

she also said that she does not understand what is so wrong with miraa since one of the official expressions of a man's interest in a woman to the njuri nceke involves giving a bunch of miraa.

@nostopping, @kingmvuvi and others 'versed' na haya mambo smile , is this true?
