In simple terms, a REIT is a company that owns and operates income-producing real estate, which can be either commercial or residential. Where they differ from a quoted company that holds a portfolio of property is that the company is not liable to tax on any income or gains made on the property portfolio and instead distributes this as income with any tax liability arising on the shareholder. This avoids the problem of double taxation with the company paying tax and then the shareholder also paying tax on any dividends received. in one of the projects i have come across this. that si mitini scapes in kiambu
The new shareholding structure will be: 75% Home Afrika Ltd 25% Shareholders, friends and Investor Clubs 240 Shares on offer @ KShs. 500,000/- per share.
