It is no secret that we have a major shortage of employment for skilled persons in Kenya. Waiting for the authorities to sort out the issue may take a while.

Elance is an international platform where ordinary people/companies hire freelancers for various jobs in various fields. Kenyans should take advantage of this, as many already have.

You are not charged a cent to present yourself as an applicant for the thousands of available temporary and long term jobs. The only charge is a small fraction that goes to Elance when you are paid for completed jobs.

In an effort to publicize this opportunity, we are holding presentations in Nairobi on all about Elance, how you can be a part of the Elance community, and how you can win more jobs in Elance.

For further details you can contact me via my inbox.

Elance is crap.

Do you want links for guys who've been scammed by your contractors?

Second its free to join and as long as you're free, you will continue getting useless jobs if you get any jobs at all.

Tell Kenyans the truth. In order for you to go anywhere in elance, you need to buy into their paid service to bid for more work.

I call that entrapment. I'm sure you will disagree.

@alma Slowly now… Yes, there is potential for landing a rogue contractor if you are careless, but Elance has avenues to avoid them.

Second… Yes it’s free to join… Scamming is when you are charged to get a job.

Third… You don’t need to buy anything to land a job in Elance. Buying extra privileges (connects) will give you an advantage but not entirely.

These are the exact reasons why we have the presentations so that THOSE INTERESTED may get enlightened & NOT necessarily join anything.

Wooow! Declaring 'all' of Elance as crap is a bit, no very, harsh. There are two types of people in any community anywhere - the honest and the dishonest.

The platform, as you insinuate, is actually not 'free' you pay from your earnings to work on Elance. There are free members, but you PAY immediately you get a job.

I think it is good to keep the facts right. Kenyans are looking for work, let us not trash every possible positive avenue out there. It does not aid our common good.

As I said before, Elance is crap.

So all of a sudden you're accepting that Elance is not as free as advertised?

Let us be honest with Kenyans who are bound to waste their time looking for jobs at Elance.

1. You join its free.
2. As a free member, you get a LIMITED amount of opportunities to bid for a job.
3. The contractors on the site even have forums where they say they won't employ someone without very many good reviews (do you want a link?)
4. Heck to get reviews, you have to get more jobs.
5. You won't get more jobs after applying using your 20 connects. Infact, I dare you to get a job.
4. So poor Kenyan is left in a catch 22 situation.

I can't get the good jobs unless I bid more. To bid more, I need to pay!

Kweri rogo?

You can call them connects, non-connects, credits or boyfriends. The fact remains that your chances of getting any sort of job increase when you pay elance more. Guess what poor Kenyan will do?

I will say this again. Elance is crap. Has been for a long time and I dare anyone on this forum to go there and earn more money than other platforms. We can do a test. You join elance today and I join any other of your choice. We check the results every day for 3 months.

Will the elance guys take up the challenge ama ni domo domo tu?

Ati helping Kenyans!

Elance does not charge you to apply for jobs and you do not have to pay anything to get jobs. Many Kenyans are active and are earning a living working on Elance.

Visit the site and search for the many active Kenyans on board.

Winning jobs depends on your profile and your proposals. In our presentations we are offering guidelines on how to use these to get more jobs.

next time you represent a company, do a little digging. I won't give my experiences and my friends experiences with this company. Both as a buyer and a provider....you'll say its personal won't you.

Just a search in the internetttsss..

If you really want to help Kenyans, at least start with fiverr. But they won't give you a commission for every Kenyan you take to their site will they?

A little digging and you will find some real gems. Do want a link?

@alma tell us some of the alternatives you claim to be better. I did some jobs sometime back and got over 30 reviews in elance. I used the free connects to get the first job. Then withdrew enough to leave something for membership for the next month. ($10)

It took time to get the first job, but once I got that, it became easy.

Yes they do deduct 8.5% of your project amount WHEN YOU GET PAID but you can always agree to share the fee with the employer.

I must say they have a great escrow and guaranteed payments for hourly rate jobs.

I am not paid to write this. I must also say I had tried accounts with frelancer.com, guru and odesk and fiver before the elance one.
