I have been a frequent flier with Fastjet in Tanzania since they launched in Nov last year and i must say they are quite impressive!before i saw the light i would pay 250USD from Dar to Nairobi(approx 20k).Now all i simply do is i do Dar-Arusha at abt ksh 3500 by Fastjet, then Arusha Nrb by shuttle(approx 4 hrs) at 1400sh.Total cost is abt 5k.I wonder how KQ/precision is going to handle the exodus. As per last week you have to pay 1 week in advance to get a seat on fastjet, yet Precision planes are carrying below 10 passengers on the same route! And of course the Fastjet planes are better(Airbus 319) and services excellent. They have never been late in fact often leave before time.No wonder fastjet is being fought off like that in Kenya!

You spend about 6 hours to reach NBO from DAR including the turn around time at Arush when a direct journey would take you 55 minutes!!!

Its all depend on how you value your money...not everybody has so much time to waste in a day!

i totally agree but look at Dar-Arusha in isolation.Precision charges are nearly twice the charges by Fastjet. My point is Budget airlines are venturing into Africa and the big boys are in for a rude shock, unless they style up,beginning by lowering their prices.Good thing is that it is the common mwananchi who benefits.

There is a modern coast bus from Dar to Nrb, 2600 ten hours.
Life is short. Live passionately.

True Modern coast however goes via mombasa overnight then you proceed to Dar using either their 6:30 am or 7 am bus.You reach Dar at 4 pm earliest and if there is 'foleni' i.e jam you end up spending another two extra hrs between Ubungo and Dar.Ubungo is like 20 km away from City centre.Advantage is plenty of leg room as opposed to the direct Nairobi-Dar route on 'Dar Express' which can be quite tiring.
Either way i'd rather save the time and money using the hybrid trip.It only costa an extra 1500 or so and you only spend 4 hrs on the road and 45 min flying
I wish the 'Scandinavian' buses were still there.I wonder why they went under.Upto today i have never seen a more comfortable bus complete with a loo inside'

@ ahoo didnt know about that upgrade.Thats good news.Fastjet have their shuttles which take you to from Kili to Arusha CBD.takes abt 45 min and costs you 5 soc.You have the option of catching a Noah to Namanga, crossing on foot and then another Noah to Nbi.They are pretty fast and fill up in minutes.I use them when in a hurry.Arusha Namanga takes 1.25 hrs;Namanga-Msa road 2 hrs.Total is 4 hrs give or take, and costs 350 and 500 bob respectively. The Jeevanjee shuttles will take you from Namanga to Jevanjee or vice versa at 1400sh though are a bit slow and evryone has to clear at the border before you leave.I gues every option has its pros and cons

The biggest cost for regional travel is the airport tax. Can the regional governments do something about it for the sake of increased trade and travel.
