Hi SK.
I am looking for a mentor. Somebody who will guide me through farming. I wanna start farming. Farming of horticultural produce ( tomatoes,onions,kales) and maize. I am looking for somebody who is doing this. I wanna pay you a visit in your home/shamba and see for myself and ask a few questions and get a few tips. I wanna do this thing as a business.

I go to markiti to buy food very early on sato morning hours and I love the way,these guys come with huge lorries full of fresh produce. These dudes mint cash. I wana join the club.

Any tips on how to go about it?

I want to do this one day too. You know,just dress in my simple clothes I normally use while slashing the grass,sit there and watch what they do.

It`s making me anxious imagining what they make!

@Eli,

I have been in farming for some time now,of course with some initial losses,but i have never given up.
Right now i'm in Middle East trying to find out why Israel supply fruits to almost every country,including Kenya. I have gathered lots of info,and have confirmed the way to go is to start with green houses,especially if you want to go vegetable/tomatoes way. You will be in business in season and out of season.

Welcome to farming business

I will be so excited,to get this info and even get his number. I am going into this thing called farming. All the big shots are doing it. From the Moi Family to Kibaki family to the Kenyatta Family...................Men,farming is a must. I have some capital and am raring to go,but first,I have to get knowledge, understanding on the same,not throwing away cash,thinking I know it all,yet am blank! Of course my grandma can farm as well,but that's not the kind of farming am talking about.

@Mwafrikah,

If these mushroom guys have a market,why can't they just lease land and do the farming themselves instead of wasting time teaching others how to do it i.e are they sufficiently philantropic?

@wanyuru,

May be good for guys here to post some questions they may wish to ask the Eng.

As for me:

1.How to determine the soil type suitable for irrigation farming

2.Can one harvest rain water and use it to sustain the farming?

3.How often the pipes used for irrigation are replaced

4.How clogging in the pipes is managed

@eli

There was a guy from Amiran on kiss 100 morning show about 2 wks ago,who was talking about a new product dubbed 'Farmers Kit' going for 130K. The kit is customized depending on what you want to grow (but I remember it included a green house). They also give you tips on how to start your venture.

I was not keen enough but you may want to talk to them
