GSK, one of the world’s largest healthcare and pharmaceutical companies, pleaded guilty on three charges and agreed to the fines in what the department called the largest healthcare fraud settlement in the history of United States.

GlaxoSmithKline has been fined Sh255 billion for selling a controversial diabetic drug alleged to cause heart attacks and strokes.
This is the biggest drug fine in the world for a drug company

The drug, Avandia, whose use had been questioned by researchers since 2007 was present in Kenyan pharmacies upto late 2010.

GSK was also accused of bribing doctors, paying for expensive trips among other benefits, to gain their support for the drugs the company was pushing.

GSK admitted to charges that it had promoted anti-depressants Paxil and Wellbutrin for uses not approved by US regulators, including treatment of children and adolescents.

Wellbutrin is used to treat major depressive disorders. It is also used to help smokers quit by reducing cravings and other withdrawal effects.

From today henceforth I consult traditional herbalists.
