trying to understand why a man cheats is like trying to understand what a woman wants.

I beg to differ. Culture ya mzungu ni kukaa na bibi mmoja. Culture ya mwafrika halisi ilikuwa polygamous and i dont believe we had/ have low IQs. NO my broda. Wazungu wameshindwa kumanage a single lady, mwafrika can manage hata Five and all of the ladies will be happy, with the first wife managing the itinerary of the bull in the compound. Habari ndio hiyo.

Looks like things have changed and the evolutionary advantage of a man being polygamous is a thing of the past. Come on guys we have evolved and maybe now monogamy confers more advantage than sleeping around. Just my thoughts.

In species where the young are particularly vulnerable and may benefit from protection by both parents, monogamy may be an optimal strategy and yes! monogamy could be advantageous from a more social or cultural evolutionary point of view than from a genetic one(it is rarely genetic).

Wouldn't it then be silly not to choose a strategy(monogamy) that safeguards the wellbeing of your kids?

I am not pro polygamy but will poke holes in your statement.

In his life Akuku married over 100 wives, divorced 85 on grounds of their infidelity and sired 160 children.[3]
There were so many children in his family that Akuku established two elementary schools solely to educate his children, as well as a church for his growing family to attend. In past interviews Akuku told local journalists he was responsible for naming all of his children, as way to bond with them.

Quote:
There was mourning and grief in Mutsulyo village after the middle-aged man identified as Geoffrey Khamalishi descended on his wife and two children aged between one and a half, and two years-old with a panga killing then instantly. His five-year-old first born son managed to escape the father's wrath and would live to tell how his kin died in the hands a man they expected to protect them.

Now tell me,who between the two was a better Father?

These theories have been used to glorify European culture since the times of the French Renaissance through Slave trade and colonialism, today the same "egoistic liberalism" is peddled as the pillar of modern European philosophy on whose foundation is modern day moral decay is founded. The very same studies is used to justify homosexualism in all its variations..... The threat to non "Western" cultures is very real but more in more grave danger is African cultures and more so Kenyan.

Can wives buy that? I believe most men would not mind being tagged stupid if it so absolves them from the consequences of their actions.
