Hypothetically, let us say you are relatively young and have a small sum saved to invest. A business is out of the question. No one you know has extensively invested in the stock market, bonds, etc. so obviously extensive research is needed before making any decision. My first question,of course the internet is as good a place to start as any, but in Kenya what forums are there in gaining knowledge on the same.

You have no pressing needs thus can afford to make a long term investment. What would be the smart move to make in this situation? All things considered, especially the political situation.

Let it sit in the bank and gain interest, stocks, bond...what?

you are in the right place, wazua is a great resource in old threads, anything question you can think of must have been covered here before. read a lot about analysing stocks and buy a few to know the process.

I am not an expert but I have learnt a tonne from wazuans in the past two years
our goals are best achieved indirectly
