Feature in Daily Nation today.. ..should a man go through the emotional trauma of watching their partner push and scream and curse and bleed in the delivery room? can this experience subdue romantic attachment the man has with the woman?.. .. If you are an eagle don't hang around with chickens; chickens don't fly....

I listen to a bit of jazz and I would compare the delivery room experience to John Coltrane's "A LOVE SUPREME", especially the live version recorded at the Festival Mondial du Jazz Antibes in 1965. If you walked into a room and found the music half-way through, you would not understand why over 500,000 copies of the record were bought. It sounds chaotic and without any order - just a bunch of guys playing instruments out of sync with each other. But if you listen to it from the beginning and go through the full 49min, 19sec from "Acknowledgement" to "Psalm", you will hear the musicians start from a common rhythm, then digress/disagree/argue and finally agree on a new tune. It is quite a magical experience - not for the weak hearted, or the impatient. It is the same with the delivery room experience. If you walk-in half-way through, you might faint in sympathy for your partner. However, if you start with her from the first contraction and build-up together through to the final push, you will understand the miracle of child-birth and gain greater respect for your wife. Now let me read the article and hear what the doctor's are saying.... Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Of the 9 months, which ones are safe for landing? and after delivery, is landing still after a few months?

It was very humbling and like @mukiha has said above gave me even more respect for my partner (and mum too). Before that was advised that if I attended the delivery it could either make our relationship stronger or destroy it. Don't know about that but it was the former for me. @nostoppingthis landing has not been affected negatively in any way. at aga khan the head nurse does not joke with the ones responsible for the pregnancy... I remember as i was waiting for mama watotos turn to enter there was a guy whose wife was already inside the delivery room and the head nurse came out and asked who the husband was... He was given a mean look and told to get in and wear those green gumboots and gown and told to go support the wife... after 10 minutes the guy came out almost pink and holding a tissue in his mouth to hold the puke back.. I dont know what became of him after that experience.. I think this is not for the faint hearted.. esp for those like Impunity/mlefu who like going for deep sea divi(lick)ing... But all in all it was a wonder.. id add it as the 11th wonder in the world.. even got the pleasure of cutting the umbilical cord and was the first to hold my son... truelly a memorable day...

It would be prudent to wait at least 6-8 weeks after delivery before "landing" can take place again. This allows for adequate healing of her bruised (and torn) "airport". Remember too, that the initial 6 weeks contraceptive-effect of lactation would have worn off, so she should be on a contraceptive or a metal jacket should be used. Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

Guys, the support really matters! But if you're the kind who can't stand seeing blood or someone in pain, please stay out. It's not for the faint-hearted. ....above all, to stand.
