Though not a must, they should also consider publishing quarterly results. In an industry as volatile as the airline business, investors should be kept abreast of matters

[i]"The growth underpins increased long haul customer travel to Europe, Middle East and Far East Regions," Kenya Airways said in a statement.[i]

I have this funny feeling that volumes recovered from last years drop in air travel (April 2010 - Eyjafjallajökull). Will confirm once IATA publishes numbers.

All in all, good news from a company that still refuses to talk about their rights

I have to go thru my 'old' e-mails but I think 1Q 2011-12 was an improvement over 1Q 2010-11 even after Eyjafjallajökull did its thing... therefore the 28% increase is very good!

A more relevant number would the increase over 4Q 2010-11

Yes, there are seasonal adjustments but @thedeal should compare Q on Q then Q vs Q

@thedeal - For a a better analysis do the following:

Take all Q numbers for FY 2010 & 2011 & juxtapose 1Q 2011-12. Why? Coz is there a real pax growth?

Also an important metric is RPK & ASK coz KQ has been loading up on planes. More pax do not matter if the PLF or RPK is dropping. Of course, KQ doesn't give RPK, Yield info in Q announcements. A pity just as @youcant said!

@VVS those where strong pax numbers from KQ I.e simple math...KQ did 3M pax in 2010-11...if you multiply 850K X 4 quaters=3.4M Pax for 2011-12 thus on a straight line pax numbers for 2011-12 will be up by 13.5% to 3.4M but historically we know KQ tends to perform better in the 2H so I think to say pax numbers for 2011-12 will be in the 3.5-3.7M range is fair enough...with that I think they can dethroane ET in terms of pax numbers...but its also good to see PLF's and RPK's..

Will share respond?

No we are all waiting to buy cheaper at 20 bob.smile

KQ numbers are impressive compared to industry growth.

Whats more? We were playing catch up to World Cup traffic (see the -ve numbers for Africa RPK and ASK). If he keeps this up, we shall end the year well.

Now, why did FTK decline in Africa?

As we cheer the numbers, lets remember that some flights were cancelled over the weekend due to a go slow.

Are KQ workers really that badly paid to warrant these perennial incidences?

I repeat:

Fire all the staff, sell all the planes, pay off all the debts, shut the business. Distribute the cash!

I will be much happier considering the cash on hand after all the above will be over 45/- per share!

KQ cabin crew stay in 5-star hotels when they have layovers. If KQ pays poorly then please quit. Leo.

How can the cabin crew compare the pay scale to pilots. A pilot can work as a cabin crew member but I do not want cabin crew members flying a plane!!!
